Since I bought my 01' Dakota at a Lexus dealer used, it never came with a User Manual, and there is a shift light on the tack that is an orange arrow. Can somebody tell me the function of this shift light? When does it tell you to shift?

What RPMS, should I be shifting at?

Thanks,

Mopar.

My shift light never worked either since day one, thank god!!!!

Well seeing as it's an arrow and it's pointing at the 3,000rpm mark. That will give you an idea, It's there to give you the best gas mileage, if you follow it. I always shift between 2500-3000rpms normal driving.

its not an arrow thats pointing at the 3k mark, its the recommended shift light, but it is intended to give u the best mileage, and its different for every gear and engine as far as i know. Itll come on when ur at the ideal shift point, and turn off again if u go over the mark, let go of the gas or push in the clutch to shift gears. My owners manual is in kansas and im in germany right now, other wise i could tell u all the RPM shift points for ur truck.

I took my guages out and took the bulb out of that stupid thing. It annoyed the hell out of me.

I pulled the bulb out too, that thing annoyed the hell out of me! I think I shift somewhere around 5300 rpm everytime!!!! :drive:

mine has never worked, i have owned this truck from brand new. had one in my old chevy. hated the damn thing.

I think the light's function is based on road speed and engine vacuum. It works on my son's 4-banger RC. It goes out after 3 seconds if the recommended shift isn't done. I seem to recall it even lights up in 5th gear. Uh, there isn't another gear...

My 2002 owner's manual states the light is not functioanl for V8s, and I'm not sure about the V6. The light is a joke, because it'll light up almost immediately after a shift if the throttle isn't burried.

Depending on the load and gearing make all your shifts between 1800-2500 for better MPG. Run it to 3500 for quick acceeleration. Run it to redline for maximum fun!

I had an 02 sxt 3.9 4x4. Mine was set off by rpms. If I was putting around it would light up around 1500. If I was getting on it it would come on around 2500. It would also come on in reverse, and in 5th in 4 lo for some reason.
