the GRAND cherokees came with 5.2 but the cherokee only came with 4.0. or 2.5 or 2.8 but noone cares about those...

a grand cherokee with minimal probles is easily worth 500 bucks. a GC in good shape goes for about 1500-2000. the cherokees are cheaper but hey if you find a GC do the damn thing and buy it.

hell a grand cherokee with many small problems is worth 500. anything serious is another story though.

What should I keep an eye out for and is there any way of checking it in a test drive? I don't know what to look for. I'm liking that one from autotrader though. Shame its so far away but good that its from a dealer. For some reason it just makes me more comfortable.

I'm uneasy about buying so old in case the 4wd system is wrecked or in case it was seriously abused. I'm very afraid of buying a dud.

GRANDS ROCK!!!

Im selling mine if I can, I beat it to shit and want something new to wheel haha

Hahaha. I'm calling the dealership tomorrow and asking if they'll do an assessment of what is needed for safety+certification.

My step dad suggests it'll cost me approx 50$ to do so I went onto my paypal and took out my spending cash! I have enough to buy that Grand Cherokee outright + a tiny bit more.

the grand cherokees are nice. and the 318 is a good little motor from what i have read.

def worth 500. clean it up and do the fixing and you can at least turn it around for a profit if nothing else.

Depending on whats wrong of course. Major things I need to keep a look out for??

preferably you dont want the awd t-case. so check that.

for 500 bucks there isnt much that will effect the sale. you will prolly find some bad u-joints maybe a wheel bearing, all the fluids should be changed "maybe no the trans."

this is going to be a daily driver right? not a wheeler? if so then you dont have to worry about the rear axle cause most came with the crap dana35 but with the v8 it might have the "ok" dana 44.

as long as nothing major "like a trans or diff or rod knock" it will be worth 500

This would be a wheeler. Maybe a small DD at the start, not going to put 1000's of miles on it though. atleast, I don't plan on it. It won't be insured as a DD.

Called the place. They won't do a scan on it to tell me what it needs for safety. I offered to pay "we're just not in a position to do it"

Also, the battery is dead in it and it needs a new one so other than that it won't start.

I don't know seems kind of sketchy to me. They say the previous owner drove it to their lot though. That and I'm sure they didn't keep it running the whole time from when he dropped it off to whne they parked it in front to take pictures to when they moved it to their lot.

I've got the cash ready at the very least.

sounds like garbage. get the other one. any dealer willing to sell a nonrunning car is crap.

The GC D44 has an aluminum center section... I wouldn't want either axles.

if they dont buy you a battery i wouldnt buy it. when i bought my truck it was sitting on the lot and when i first looked at it it wouldnt idle so the next day they bought me a battery and it was all set. even though they put a cheap little battery that wasnt even the right size for the truck its lasted almost 4 years and its never went dead, and the dealer made their sale.

for 60 bucks they better put one in it.

60bucks is 10% of the cost of the jeep LOL

that's like trying to haggle them down 10$. Which I WILL try to do. I have until Sunday before they send it off for auction so I doubt i'll get them to throw in a cheapo battery.

Keep in mind, its 500$ for the Cherokee. Not several thousand. They'll be making little to NO profit on this minus the Hummer they sold on trade-in. They said they're selling it just to make up the value they got on the trade-in.

Clint can I talk to you on MSN if you're available? my msn is mystake (at) gmail.com

I've seen you post before oyu know quite a bit aobut Jeeps. Atleast so you've claimed? I'm afraid of buying this jeep and finding out it need several thousand dollars of repair

I guess for 500$ I could just part it out. i'm sure I'd score some do-re-my for it if I did.

-Thanks guys
