hey i just got an M1 and i wanted to give it a little color before i install it. i really would rather not powder coat it because I'm on a budget here so what are your thoughts on some high temp spray paint? anyone got pics? thanks in advance guys.

oh, and in case you were wondering, i got it for $200 off craigslist, NIB, never installed. w00t w00t!:woot:

well why spend 20 on a decent high temp spray paint when for just 50 more at the most you can have it powder coated and not ever have to worry about it. Do it right the first time around and you'll be happier.

For all those who have yours powdercoated, let's see a pic with it mounted and used for awhile. Unless you're anal about keeping your engine bay cleaned it won't matter the coating used IMO. The paint will hold up fine if prep was done well.

Mine has been on for about a year and a half, and about 10000 miles, and all I have to do is wipe it down with a damp rag and it looks like new again. Shiny and all. Powder is awesome.

Dude, it's not about being anal (hahaha) about keeping the engine bay clean. But when the time comes to clean up under the hood, a simple "wipe" with simple green on the intake and valve covers is all it takes. Using paint (depending on color) can/will eventually soak up oil, dirt and cleaning solvents. Us that have PC'd parts are just trying to save you a hassle.
