Hey i just bought myselft an electric fan because my clutch seized on my clutch fan and figured i switch completely to electric. It says it has a built in shroud. but it doenst look like there is much to it. just wondering if i shoudl keep my stock shroud on or if i can take it off. Id like to take it off if possible.

The shroud should cover most of the radiator

if it doesn't you decreasing the size of your cooling capacity. I installed a used Lincoln Mark 8 (wrecking yard jewel) and it covers 95% of my rad. Cooling is super for the last 2 years now.

Do a search there has been lots of threads on installs.
Good hunting... :D

the schroud is to create a vaccuum where the fan blades are more efficient. as long as it has a ring around the blades it will pull the desired amount of air through. you also want some air to be able to blow through as the blades may actually act as a wall at higher speeds.

let us know how you wired it in, need to do this myself in the next month

How was the install on the mark 8 fan?was it easy to mount?how about wiring?i just picked one up for $50 bucks and plan to install it soon..

It took a day, some metal and fabricating...

You have to get rid of the big clunky fan cover. The planning takes longer than the work. You have a radiator over flow and windshield washer that needs to be replaced. Do some digging in the threads and you will find lots of good ideas for replacements. My rad overflow is Advance Auto for $10??. My windshield wash tank is a kitchen storage bottle from K-Mart. drilled the bottom used some 3/8" pipe & flange, RTV and some hose (fuel line ? don't remember) to hook up the stock pump.

Everyone has a favorite controller, some say you don't need one if have a stock electric fan (IMHO BS). I had a stock electric fan but bought a Hayden ($35) controller and piggyback wired it into my relay. I installed a 180 T-Stat in the radiator hose and set the controller to come on at 195 and off at 185 +/-. When you loose the clutch fan it is wonderfully quiet. You can actually hear the motor instead of the blasted fan. My controller is hidden in front of the battery mounted to a piece of aluminum angle, the sensor is thru the radiator fins right at the inlet.

Don't be in a hurry, the wiring takes the longest and will make or break the job. I'm on 2 years (?) and haven't touched it.

:waiting: show us some pix when your done...!

I used a spal pwm controller with a 10" and 12" s-blade fan. Right now both fans come on at the same time but I am going to fix that so only one comes on when it gets to hot and have both come on when I turn on the a/c.

I forget the on/off temps I used, but my controller has a low and high speed for the fan. I usually only ever hear the low speed and only once when I was towing did the high come on for a minute.

For the temp, I wired right into the factory temp sensor then just calibrated the spal unit to my liking. my truck has not over heated or even gotten to warm since then.

how easy is it to wire the electric fan into factory temp sensor... my fan is still in the process of bein shipped so im hopein it will all make sense once i see it.

and i take i the only thing else i need to buy is a controller and something for my overflow tank.... cause my waser fluid bottle is also near my firewall
