to reduce back pressure, you need smooth, free flowing pipes. headers and not manifolds, and an open/free flowing muffler.

on a V6, you shouldn't need massive pipes unless you put a huffer on it. I would think that a true dual 2.5" exhaust is MORE than enough for a V6. hell, probably dual 2" pipes is all you need.

the motor is a 3.8 it has pacesetter headers and high flow cat . and the pip is 2.5 but when i let off the gas it really crackly and it pops. and my low oil light come on when i warm it up then goes off when i shut off the car and turn it on it doesnt go unless it warmed up is that normal?

I say drill lots of holes in the pipes and mufflers......................

So this means you have excessive back pressure?

Soounds to me

Like it's more likely too little for that motor.

I highly doubt it. look at what came on our 360 cu in V8s stock.

one single 2.5" pipe

he has a V6...what's the cubic inces on that thing? 260ish?

headers, high flow cat, and 2.5" pipes is more than enough for a V6.

crackle when you let off the gas does NOT indicate excessive back pressure.
and neither does an oil pressure light under any circumstances.

I'd look into that oil pressure light though...verify that it's just a sending unit issue with the light, and not an oil pump/pick-up issue that's about to fuck up your motor

on my old firebird the oil light came on and it was sending unit...... and alot of crackle from straight pipes with a 6 cyl is normal. and also depends on muffler n shit. my old slp loudmouth like 'wound down' the gmmg chambered crackles alot, flowmaster is in the middle and so is magnaflow. (im talkin gm motors here)

My 88 V8 5-speed camaro has 2" pipes and a magnaflow muff.
The 92' RS V8 has a stock system, without the cat, and they both crackle on deceleration.
It's just a funny trait that these old F-bodies have.

Just so you know, crackling or cackling exaust does not mean exessive backpressure.
The characteristic sound for backpressure is a hissing sound or high pitched whistle.
