Upper and lower ball joints were both replaced recently, I think it's the wheel bearing. Either way it doesn't look cheap. :(

In some ways though it makes me feel better. I thought the bearing was going out, as I'd heard occasional groaning from it. I went for a ride with my mechanic though, and we beat on the truck but couldn't replicate any noise. I got it towed to the shop and told him "SEE! I'm NOT crazy!" :D

I have towing insurance as well, so I just have to cover the repair bill.

TBH, I'm probably getting as much as possible from the junkyard. I'm broke right now. As long as it gets me through the year I'll be happy. Hopefully I'll have a better job by then to I can afford to fix it right. Even using jumkyard parts I'm going to have a hell of a time coming up with the money.

Fuck Lockout....that shit sucks bro. That's what I would do.....junkyard parts till you can replace it with new stuff. If you have time, search around some...you never know who's getting rid of stuff for cheap just cause they want it gone.

Good luck with it man.

The report is in-- catastrophic wheel bearing failure. It took the axle, spindle, and rotor out with it. :(
OUCH! and thats an understatement!

That thing HAD to be making some noise before it went. Even if not, you should have got in there and checked it out when you suspected an issue. Could have saved alot of coin.

Definetly glad to see it didn't come off completely!

Yeah, ditto. That's not fun when that happens... Mine cost about 700-some bucks to fix when mine fell off... Good luck, L/O.

It made an occasional groan once or twice over the past weeks, but I went for a ride with my mechanic and couldn't duplicate it. At the time, we couldn't find anything wrong, even though I mentioned it sounded like a bearing may be on it's way out. Then it just failed pretty suddenly. Over the course of about a day (without all that much driving really) the noise suddenly came back and got worse fast, and at the end of the day the steering wheel started tugging on me. That was last night, I had it towed in this morning. I had tried several times to grab the wheel and check for slop, but I couldn't budge it any more than the other wheel. Something must have been hanging on and suddenly let go.

The real bitch is that would actually be a good picture of my truck if it wasn't for the stupid camber on that wheel. :D

Woot! The bill wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. I thought I was going to hit a grand or more, and it was only $625! Still gotta come up with the cash, but that's a lot better than I expected. :)
