-edlebrock makes good, quality stuff. never had expereince with the "shorties" but its from edlebrock, so y not? ceramic headers run cooler and are a bit quieter. id say go for it, b/c those a cheap. the gibsons i was looking at cost around 600.
-i think you could get by with a custom made y pipe... but if you dont feel adventurous, then im sure a pre-made one will be fine
-going 3,3 then to 2.5 will be "choking" the exhaust, id say keep with the 3, or even go with a 3.5"
-idk what to tell you on the exhaust exit. thats personal prefrence
-borla mufflers!!!! heres a soundclip of a borla cat back system on my 4.7

the exhuast tubing will all be custom bent...what muffler is that?

so what premade y-pipes do you guys recommend?

i know you dont want to spend alot of money but you should just get some mids or long tube headers. the stock y pipe is crap plus you only have to get the y pipe to the pipe going back welded and you will want more power one day so you might as well spend a little more money and get the longtubes

i didnt quite understand what you were saying about the y-pipe...i seriously dont plan on doing much more to the engine...what what i have planned i should be mid 14s and thats fine with me...

it looks like the edelbrocks have 3/8" flanges just like many other top brands...they also come in 409 stainless, ceramic coated...

When it comes to headers make sure the flange is as thick as possible to prevent warping. If its only 1/4" thick I'd look elsewhere. I had a set of cheapie headers on my 1 ton Chevy w/ 454 and the flanges warped within a year. I took them off and put stock manifolds back on. On the 455 in my Buick drag car the flanges are 3/8" thick and no problems. Get them ceramic coated inside and out. They will run cooler keeping your underhood temps down allowing your engine to run cooler. Also they look better.:bling2::bling2:
you will need to keep up on the header bolts though. I'm always re-torqueing mine. You could get some Stage 8 locking type and not worry about it. what you plan for the rest of your exhaust sound fine to me. I' would however, get the crossover custom made with 2 1/2" down pipes and then into 3" Any competent exhaust shop can do this with ease.

As far as the header bolts go, there are locking bolts out there that work quite well and aren't going to cost that much more than a regular header bolt. IMHO it is better to spend the little bit of extra money and not ever have to deal with it again.

Also, I believe you will get better low end torque from long tubes, but it doesn't sound like you are going to go any further with the engine so shorty's should be just fine. Out of curiosity what do you have done to your truck?

huh? Stage6 bolts were like $70 versus $12 for the black oxide grade 8 bolts!

M1 intake, 50mm F&B TB, Ram air induction, superchips...

Dude your screwing around and will waste your money on your exhaust if you keep persisting like this.

with the top end you described anything short of this will suck potential from your other purchases and thus waste time and more importantly your hard earned money.

get the long tube headers, you may think you dont need them now, you will want them later, do it once and be done.

dual 3" all the way back, get and X-pipe not a Y pipe a Y is just more restriction because it forces both sides of the engine down the same pipe.

then a pair of good flowing mufflers, i recomend not a flowmaster there are much better flowing mufflers out there.

I put 4 exhausts on my TA in 2 years and learned this lesson the hard way.

I wouldn't say hed be wasting money because if he can't afford LTs or simply doesn't want them, he's not gonna hurt th performance of his other mods by getting shortys. anything is better than his stock setup so whatever he ends up doing will only benefit him. sure he won't get th full potential of hi other mods, but he will get a lot more out of em compared to right now. just my .02

ok so here is my thinking...im about 95% sure im gonna get those shorties, and if down the road i decide that i wanna mod the engine more then i will just sell them for half price, take my loss and get long tubes...i think that the shorties will complement the mods i have very nicely...

if my understanding is correct a single 3inch will flow around 600cfm...i think that will be pleanty or am i wrong?...

i will either get the jba y-pipe or custom make one havent decided on that one yet, but i will do some thing there.

if i dont do my origional plan, then i will prolly just do true dual 2.5 with atleast an H-Pipe...not sure on that tho...OPINIONS?

right now im prolly gonna bolt up the shorties to my stock pipe with no muffler and run that while i take care of a few other things i got planned...but i do plan on getting the rest of the exhaust redone within a year and a half...
