well my trans was finished today so i picked it up. and me and one of my buddys started on it today. we got the old 46rh out. was a little more of a pain then i was expecting but still not that bad seeing that we did it in my garage with the truck on jack stands. so hopefully we will get the 727 in tomorrow with enough time to get it on a trailer and to the drive shaft place to get a drive shaft made up, or at least measured. ill get e pics up tomorrow but there's nothing that is to interesting.

any one that did this swap what did you do for the speedometer?

and any one with a manual valve body did you hook up the "throttle cable" kick down cable??????????

'94 and up went to a wire driven speedo, I think? You could probably swap the speed sensor from the 46rh over to the 727. We just pulled my 46rh on sunday and compared it to my 727- I think it may work. You may need to swap the speedo gears between the 2 though.

If that doesn't work, I guess you'd have to change the dash/speedo out for a '87-'93 I suppose and get a cable and the sensor to do it. Hope this helps.

Yep, I just took the mechanical speedometer out of the older Dakotas (125mph) and the cable. Still haven't hooked it up yet. :jester:

Thats the only way it will work.

without looking at the electronic sender from the 46, I'm going to say that it will not swap into a 727. a 727 is set up for a gear driven speedo cable, so it's got a worm gear inside the housing, not a tone ring like a magnetic electronic sender would use.

you could swap a rear axle from a newer truck with a tone ring and sender in it, OR try to add a tone ring to your ring gear, and drill and mount a sending unit into your housing (but I think it'd be easier to swap the whole axle) and then you can throw in an aftermarket electronic programable speedometer from Autometer, and have do it yourself calibration ability for tire size changes. (good thing about gear changes when the sending unit is on the ring gear--you can swap gears and it won't mess up your speedo)

well i got the trans in yesterday not to bad

took it to the driveshaft shop and ran into another problem. the slip yoke dosn't fit and yes i have the right one, it seems that the tail shaft bushing/bearing is no the right size. so i have to call the trans shop and and see if they put another size in for a reason or whats going on. and how can we fix this. so once again my truck is on hold.

Nice truck!! Very interested in your swap.

I see in your pics the crank sensor wheel is still in place. Are you still running off the PCM or did you go to standalone etc?
Wondering how you dealt with mounting the crank sensor if you're still using it.

yes i am still running off of the pcm all you have to do to mount the crank sensor is notch out for the crank sensor the same as the trans your pulling out.
