Well i have a problem, i need bigger tires for my durango. The 31" Dayton Timberlines just aren't cutting it. I keep getting stuck. What i'm looking to do is a simple torsion bar crank in the front, and an axle flip in the rear. I'd like to know if this is possible, how much lift i would acheive if i did this, and would i be able to stuff 33"s under it without too much rubbing?

If you do the setup you are planning you will get at most about 2" of lift in the front maybe more maybe less but you will get like 4-5" of lift in the rear. If your looking to fit 33s then get a body lift, they are not that expensive.

you can get soem shackles and save the headache of flippin the axle... teh torsions will give you abotu 1.5 to 2 inches depending on yrou truck.. and the shacles can go up to 4 inches?

youll be able to fit 33's just trim teh front a little..

I got 35s on my Dak and its been stuck before, but only because the ruts were so deep that my axle was high centered. The 79 F-150 that I had got stuck a lot on 35" Boggers for the same reason. Don't matter what kind or size tire you got if they ain't touching the ground then you ain't going nowhere lol.

That's about it, Need more axle clearance. The tires are amazing, no doubt, just not big enough :hammer: So the 33's will fit with just a 3" body lift? I've been wondering about this.

from what i have gathered form simular ?s that i have asked... with a 3in body lift the only problem that you might run into is a little lock to lock rubbing... im putting 285/70R17s on my 2000 dakota along with a 3in P.A. lift this weekend.. i'll let you know how it goes

Thx man. I have ordered myself the PA 3" body lift, it's on it's way!! I have to order the drop shackles for the rear and do a torsion bar crank to give me that extra little 2". I want to fit 33"s under her and i dont think i'll have a problem with 5"s. All i need now is the tires lol. I've been lookin for a set for a decent price. anyone have a good idea where i could find some? I was looking at going with some super swamper TSL radials, $187 per for 33x12.50 r15. But that may be just over my price limit.

tires is a hard thing to recomend... it all about what you like.. personaly for my driving habits and style i like firestone A/t Destination... but i know most people hate those tires.. i had a set of 235s on an old chevy and the road great so i ordered a set for my dodge in 285

I got my Dunlop Mud Rovers for $150 per tire new, and they are 35s. For the money no name brand tire can beat them performance wise, they have proven to be incredible tires in the mud yet are still managably quiet on road and with regular rotations they should last just fine.

I run General Grabber AT2's and they are possibly the best tire for traction I've ever used and cheap= $135 for the 305/70/16's

First, it's more about driver than tire.
I'm not trying to bring you down, you just didn't give much info on this so I'll start at the basics.

Practice, Practice, Practice! Join a 4x4 club and watch the seasoned trial riders. Plus it's not good to wheel alone, it's like swimming you need the buddy system. :D

Do you know what a locker is? Limited slip?
Do you have a locker in the rear?
If not, why not?

On the road what psi do you run your tires.
On the trail what psi do you run your tires.
What is the lowest tire pressure you ever ran?

Do you pick a line, and try to follow it?
Have you ever drove your line, then before your stuck get out an review it?
Are you tires exactly where you think they would end up?
Can you park your D 1" or less away from a tree? (No, you can't hit it first)

I don't like spotters, learn your vehicle. (unless in hard rocks)

I would love to join a 4x4 club. there are a few around my area. There just isn't many places to go.

I know what a locker is, i have limited slip.
Dont have a locker cause i havent gotten around to it yet. Not sure if i want to spend the money because i dont do alot of serious off roading. Just the occasional weekend trail, or if i see mud i have to attempt it.

40 psi on the road.
Havent really aired down the tires on the trail because they're only 31"s and i just dont think i could sacrifice the ground clearance.

I do pick a line and try to follow it.
I do usually walk my line before i run it.
The tires usually do end up right where i want them.
And o ya, i can park my D within an inch of anything, i know the boundries and the size of my truck very well.

Thx for the Q's, I definitely want to get out more and off-road. The main reason for me getting stuck is just the deep mud, or getting high centred on the diff (damn ruts). This is why i want to go with a 33" and some lift, give me just that little bit more clearance so i can try to go places i would usually look at and go "nope, gonna get stuck there". I myself Dont like spotters as well, but sometimes when crossing a washout i'm not sure if i have the height so it is nice to have someone in front to let me know if i'm not going to lose my bumper.

O and i got My 2" lift shackles, and i'm going to put them in and crank the T-bars as soon as i have some spare time. Don't worry, i will definitely have some pics for you guys. Just waiting on the body lift to arrive and i'll be installing that :D All i need now is a set of 33"s to finish it off for now, until i decide that that's not enough and want to go bigger.

O but of course. I'm out of town this weekend, but when i get back i will be installing the T/S lift. I promise pics.

Good news, installed the T/S lift and it looks awesome. Here's some pics, mind you i got a little excited and totally forgot to take some before pics. It took a buddy and myself 2 1/2 hours (at 2 in the morning) to install it. It was actually pretty easy once we got the fuckin trailer hitch off (Top bolt on the driver side shackle came out right into the hitch) Cranked the T-bars 9 turns, The front wheel well is sitting at about 37"s, Started at 34 1/2". So not too bad. Didn't measure the rear. All in all i love the way it looks. Now i can't wait till i get the 3" body lift in, which i received yesterday. Just waiting on some bigger tires before i install it. So here are the pics, enjoy...

Now i noticed that after the t-bar crank the front end feels a little floaty, but nothing a new set of shocks can't fix. Other than that everything is working just fine, no problems.

By the way, the shackles i used were the belltech 6400. Nice amount of lift. I know that they're usually around $70, but i went to our local performance parts dealer here in new hamburg and they had them on the shelf for $98. So i had to scoop them. I dont mind that little extra bit o' dough, it was well worth it. :D
