Well this started a few weeks ago on our first good snowfall, we have 65 acres of fields and woods. Anyways I'm coming home from work and notice snowmobile tracks starting at the edge of our property cutting down the center of the field and exiting into our neighbors field, they looked fairly new maybe a day or so. I went out and started plowing out our driveway with my ATV, and as I'm finishing up I hear something coming from our field behind me. I drive my ATV out there and park it on the snowmobile trails and wait...sure enough here comes 3 snowmobiles, and guess what they go around me and wave :rant:. I cant chase them since the ATV still has the plow attached and it raises up only so high (if I hit a good bump the blade will catch the ground and send me flying). Next day I put some haybales at the entrance of where they come onto our property to use as a barricade, they drove over the haybales knocking them over into the road which amazingly didn't cause an accident. Next day I put more haybales and some fallen trees across the same entrance and...they start a new trail, now I'm fuming. There's been fresh tracks ever since, lastnight I spotted them coming down the road and entering the same spot in our field again so I get dressed and wait on my 4 wheeler hoping they come back so I can confront them...usually they just go up the road several miles and come back through again but this time the never returned. Now my grandfather said this has been happening for years now, people riding their snowmobiles without asking for permission. Most of the posted/no trespassing signs he has up are so far gone and need replacement which we were planning to do this spring. I cant believe that these morons cant get a clue as to why their trails have been blocked on both sides, are people really this clueless :huh:. I dont want to call the police because it wont solve anything unless they see them in the act which I've only managed to do a few times and I live on the property. Our road is nothing but farmland on either side so they make a big circuit that ends up going into the next town, most of these trails go parallel with the road, crossing over lawns and driveways. I'm sure that for the several miles of trails they've been riding on that we're not the only ones who are upset about them trespassing. I'll continue to set in the woods and wait for them to come through again so I can tell them in person they aren't welcome on our property...I seriously doubt no trespassing signs will be effective since our neighbor has some posted and they ride across his field. Anyways sorry...just wanted to vent some frustration on this matter.

Here's what you do...
1) You spend the couple bucks and blast the borders with ginormous "NO TRESPASSING" sings.
2) At the entrance points, you build a wooden fence, or gate if you still want to have access.
3) To the best of my knowledge, you don't need to put any kind of markers on fences or gates. Until I'm shown where this is in the law, tough fuckin' shit. If you want to just do it anyways, put some reflective markers in front with another ginormous sign.
4) Sit back and kick back another beer as they plow into the fence/gate at Mach 5. As long as there's signs posted, that's just tooo bad.
5) Put up some motion sensors at those places so that if they go around, spot lights come on, a siren goes off, a camera takes pictures, and a recording of gunshots blares from the loudspeakers. That should do it for ya.... :jester:

the gate deal would be the way to go for sure.& i dont believe you have to mark them either.as what i was saying about marking them is if you just put up a rope/cable/ whatever that can actually ripe you off like a sling shot or worse..im not surei would go as far as the sirens & gun shot recordings.but to each his own extent.

Ok so what is the diffence with putting up a gate of fence, compared to cinder blocks with a sign? There isnt a fuckig difference yet you screamed fucking illegal previously...Make up your damn mind...
and before you go into the "purposely hurting someone" I think a few people took it to that extent on their posts, however the original thread maker (haha) simply stated to keep them out, not to hurt them, I think that was stuck in your head way to long in this whole thread...He wasnt going to hide the cinder blocks to be a SURPRISE attack on them, just use them to block the area and post a sign up...Nothing wrong with that at all

because you cant see cider blocks hiddin in the snow which in other minds would kind of be a trap..now if you hit a big gate that is in plain site.then your a complete moron...the way i see it is if you hide the blocks your trying to hurt them or the machines..but if you put up a gate then your just trying to protect the property

Ok ya see I wasnt seeing them stacked one high, I was seeing somewhat of a wall being built ouf of them...Not a wall...but at least stacked somewhat higher than one block...

this was the guy who had that idea with the blocks & he mentioned covering them with snow & if he hits them with his atv it wont hurt the atv so i assumed 1 stack high??? but im glad were on the right page now.:argue::banana2:

I'm not sure but if NY is Like MO and has adopted what is called the castle doctrin. It basically says that if some one is on your property- shoot first and ask questions later- It's a new law that has been adopted by quite a few states. The law used to be only if you felt you were in iminent danger but not anymore- kinda has that feeling of the old western days- LOL
Well I did the fence idea a couple weeks ago, I even went as far as putting flourecent orange tape around it so they would see it in time before they hit it and hurt themselves. I also hung reflectors off of it, so at night time they would be able to see the fence as well. I also hung big no trespassing signs off the fence. This worked for a while until a day or two ago where a large number (12 or more) of snowmobiles decided they didn't want to ride down the road and went under my fence anyways.

WOW! You've got alot on your hands. You need to get the law involved. This is getting out of hand. What ever you do to keep them off of your property, they just defeat it or go around it. So you are getting no where. You need to take more drastic measures. I would start with law enforcement and then go from there. At least with a fence or gate or some kind of barricade, if they go through it then that is destruction of property. Maybe an electric fence about so high off the ground. It may and may not work. Start with the law first. They need to know about what is going on. They will catch them. I now here in Texas, I have the right to use deadly force at night. I'm not saying to shoot at them or to even shoot them. Maybe a gun shot or 2 will change their minds. I don't want to see anyone get hurt either. Enough is enough. Maybe you should get them to pay for the use of your land. Charge them $500 a rider. That will keep them away.
