am driving a 02 dakota quad cab by the way w/ custom decatted bassani exhaust, custom intake, superchips tuner and 3" djm drop....

was also wondering on whats the average consumption on fuel to and from ontario....

thanks again

from my past exp. crossing the border:
1. No Guns, if they search the vehicle at the border and find it your screwed
2. Personal defense knives larger than what will fit in a pocket are best left hidden and not declared
3. Radar detectors should be unplugged and hidden from view before crossing the border
4. If you taking a pet with you, care full shot/health record for the animal in case your asked for it
5. According to my Streets and Trips, it's about 900 mles +/- should take you about 2 days, allow upto 4 hrs for crossing the border

in car cell phone charger your battery will be dead IF you have an emergency
cooler for snacks and drinks
games/books/pillow/blankets for passengers

Do a nitrogen fill on all 5 tires
fresh oil change
clean the K&N filter under the hood.
top off all other fluid and check the balance of the antifreeze to be 50/50

Don't hide anything in the vehicle weapons wise - you get caught not declaring a weapon and you get a free stay at the crowbar hotel - are you coming up for a visit or work?

900 miles, averaging 60mph will get him there in 15 hrs. You can do it in a day. Leave at 5am and be there by 8 pm.:drive: Keep your lright door shut and your left foot down. Good luck on your trip.

not if they search him at the border. :canada3:

thanks guys....how long is the immigration thing?
2-4hours in my experience. Any reason you're going to Barrie? It's right in the snow belt... meaning it snows there... a lot.

Gas here is more expensive than in the States so before you cross, refill your tank.

Duty free for alcohol, we're taxed harder here than you are... however our beer isn't watered down.

Only take across the boarder things you would take with you if you went to... say... Europe. No weapons, no drugs.

be prepared for icy/snow covered roads. My street hasn't been plowed and all the snow is packed down tight and turned into ice... and my street is one of the oldest ones in the area yet it gets plowed last/sometimes doesn't.

also bring some spare change for some french fries and gravy (and cheese)... the mythical poutine!!

google maps.

truckers drive across the country on a weekly basis. its not a big deal. just dont bring anything that can kill someone. duh

well ill be heading to the concession 5 or 5th line...kinda confusing address wise...specially the zip code.....
well am going to visit an important someone and its not soon but am planning on driving there...would it be more feasible to drive than to fly overthere?.....will they like tear down my truck in immigration?....i mean like open tires and what not?......i just want to make it smooth and nothing go wrong....

1. It'll be cheaper to drive it
2. As long as you don't give them a reason, they won't tear anything down. Been to Ontario 3 times, first time I declared my survival knife that sits beside my seat and they did nothing. 2nd time I didn't declare it and they did nothing except ask to see all of our ID's, 3rd time they told me to remove and unplug my radar detector. Coming back into the US is actually more of a bitch, they tend to be more anal about things.

Just remember, anything you buy at duty free is legal to bring back, EXCEPT CUBAN CIGARS, so you'll have to declare things like that, but as long as you don't give them cause your fine. I notice by your sig that your military, take your military ID with you, it will help at both crossings.

you can't speed in Canada like you can here, they tend to be pickier and that immigration line can be a long one

not if they search him at the border. :canada3:
even if they don't search him, the line can be long. Since he's going in from Mich. to Ont. that crossing is busier than the one in NY.

definetly gas is more expensive, yeah but your beer still sucks, oh and if he can hide it withoutthe dogs finding it, he can bring back the good drugs

uh... not sure about how speeding up here is bad but down thar in the US it's ok?

On the way to new jersey through the turn pikes doing only speed limit 55 or 65mph depending on construction (ok ok so I did 3-4mph over), several times into the night I saw 4-6 cruisers pull out of the dark and pull people over in a 5minute span.

To go to Barrie you'll probably be coming up HWY 401 and then taking HWY 400 north. On the 401, without incriminating myself... you can push 85-87mph WHEN others are as well. There are nights where 120km/h is the fast speed, other nights when the average speed is 140km/h even though the limit is 100km/h.
I've been in a car that did a steady 145km/h for about an hour without getting pulled over. thing is, we weren't passing anyone.

the 400 is extremely dangerous. there are a lot of trucks on it and a few turns on it for some reason end up in deadly crashes. For that highway I wouldn't recommend pushing the speed limit much past 110-120km/h.

But uh... not sure why you say not to speed up here like you guys can... that's exactly what I'd say to someone from Canada going to the States.

OH! 50km/h or 30mph over the speed limit = lost car... so don't go that fast.

heres the tip cops keep giving me when I ask them... as long as you're not the fast car, or the car that is passing everyone and you're just going with the flow of traffic chances are you won't get pulled over.

if it hasn't been mentioned, ipod, or if not, satellite radio.
