I went through one and they gave me this screwed up scenario with a guy and a small pocket knife, and i told them i would immediately give him a dose of OC spray, and they went fucking apeshit screaming at me "why in the hell didnt you shoot that piece of shit, he has a fucking knife, you have a gun, use the god damned thing!!!" (exact words)

and when i told them "if i dont have to shoot him, i'm not going to, if i can restrain or subdue him with non-lethal force then i will do so every time a situation like that presents itself to me" and that just pissed them off even more.

I believe it was a Supreme Court ruling some time ago (I could be wrong on if it was a S.C. ruling or some other finding) that an officer is justified to shoot someone that is threatening them with a knife if they are within 21 feet of the officer. Some shit about time studies prove that much closer than that and the perp could cover that distance and stab you by the time you draw and fire.
Probably why they were looking for you to shoot the fucker. That, and it's Texas.... :jester:
