was going with 2.02 intake valves a good idea? and the stock 1.62 exhaust valvles.

IIRC the 3.9's have a 3.91 bore, same as the 318's correct? As long as the bore isn't smaller than that I'd use the 2.02's. Any smaller bore and you could run into problems with shrouding and negating any benefits of the 2.02's
 
Definatly want a thicker gasket for when you put your turbo on. if the 5.2 gasket has all the same opening I cant see why cutting one down would not work.
 
can't cut one down...the cylinder that was removed was an inner cylinder. The little legs the go up the block to the end rails have to be there, so cutting one isn't an option
 
I think the water jackets are different, IMHO

ok, i just talked to the machinest, he said putting in the bigger 2.02 valves will weaken the head because he'll have to modify the seat. And that the exh and int. valves are closer to each other than on a 318 head, causing this problem. I thought the 3.9 and 5.2 head were identicle? not true?
