Does the sct tuner have to be connected to a laptop to use inside truck.

No for handheld. And if you mean PRP, there is no datalog capability to see live data, at least as of now. With PRP, you need the laptop to change tune parameters and it only connects to the handheld unit to send tune to it.

This is a handheld and the previous owner said it works with a laptop. Is there anything like supporting software that is supposed to come with these or anything???

Go to WWW.SCT FLASH.COM and download "liveload software . With that installed and a printer cable you plug tuner into your "puta" and you can load tunes into it you get in E-mail from whoever is doing your tuning. IE I've got two tunes from KRC Performance to load into truck and try. You send the dyno run info to them and they tweak the tune and send you a new tune to load and try

do ineed to have it plugged into a laptop to load into truck because it doesn't turn on when plugged into truck alone.

NO you load tune into SCT from your PUTA then from SCT into your vehicle IF SCT is not lighting up when you plug it into ALDL (with key on) get your money back Do you know what tunes were in SCT when you got it ? Get a USB cable (a to b) -plug it into the USB port on your puta and see if it lights up- Download the software from site and your puta can talk to SCT and show you what is loaded into it (it will hold 3 different programs at same time)

If you bought it used, chances are you won't be able to use it. They are proprietary. There is a security USB dongle that must be plugged in to the laptop when loading a tune into the hand held. If the hand held has been programmed already, it won't fire up on someone elses truck. That way SCT doesn't get ripped off by selling one PRP to a guy and then he goes and tunes 1,000 R/T's with it.

I have asked for a refund from the guy I bought it off of through pp and thru pm's on here. Here said he had to always plug it into a laptop to use it on his dak so he knows it didn't work right when he sold it to me. He also told me he was not going to give me a refund so what are the proper steps to go about getting my money back and him getting his tuner back. Or what else should I be doing???
