4.10 gears

I have a 2000 Dakota quad cab with 3.55 gears and LSD my tire size is
255-65-16. Would 4.10 gears be a good gear change for me as i plan on leaving the factory LSD in there and have a 4.10 ring and pinion installed by a shop. Should the factory LSD be fine truck has 130,000 miles on it thanks

is that from the porc website? im glad u found thoose guys, they are like 20minutes from my house and they do installs :woot:
so now im just wait'n on the money :(

Well I found out that if you're calling around to shops....just tell them you wanna change your gears, first

Local Ring & Pinion shop here in Michigan said $295 for labor

Then I said how much to install an LSD with the gears.....he said he'll do it for free because they have to take the differential out to put the gears in anyways.

I called around a couple other places and they were saying like $400-500.....but I'd rather go to a place that's called "The Ring & Pinion Shop".....lol....since they specialize in that stuff

That's what I was looking for and I found the cheapest price of $196.99 from Drivetraindepot.com for one

I called them up & they tell me the part number was old & has been superceded by a new one and that it costs $295 or something

So then I called 4wheelparts.com since they had it on their website for $205.99.

Got the same thing....it's an old part number & it's been superceded by a new one. The guy tells me that they upgraded the clutch packs (?) or something on the new unit....I forget.

Anyways....so I ended it up ordering from 4wheelparts.com & I got it for $259 SHIPPED

So call around before ordering online or else you won't get what you're looking for.....cuz if I would've ordered it online.....I would've been waiting for it to show up until they finally would've called me and told me that they don't have it at that price anymore

Oh and I bought my 4.10 Motive Gears (new) from this guy on ebay....

I did the "Best Offer" and offered him $165 (he accepted).....shipping was like $23-24 or something.

Came out to $189 SHIPPED for the gears though

I got a friend who works at AAMCO, but i don't know if I would trust them. I had a trans rebuilt by a local tran shop a couple years ago and had no probs after. So mabye i'll see what they want for an install.
