I've got no idea how much a press would cost:huh:, but the one that I used was basically like a hydraulic press but you used a bottle jack to power it. The jack sat on top of the press part that went down and and the jack pushed against the top of the frame of the machine. And when you pumped the jack the press went down. I'm sure you could rig something up but you would need something really sturdy to press against to get the old bearing out. The bottle jack we were using was like a 20 ton or something and i was pumping on that thing pretty hard to get it to pop out. Could you do it? Probably, would it be worth it, IDK that is up to you.

mthandt: You wouldn't happen to have any pics of where the snap ring is? I'm considering doing this on my front hubs off my 2000 and i don't see the snap ring for some reason...are mine different than yours do you know? also, is yours a 2wd or 4wd? mines 4wd....

Mines a 2wd so they are different. I have one really big nut holding the hub onto the spindle and you have 3 smaller nuts holding the assembly onto the knuckle. So they are completely different I reall couldn't tell you whether or not you can even change yours. But my snap ring was located right behind the big nut right in the middle of the hub assembly.

regular ring pliers will do...and once you remove the big nut you'll see it as Mthandt said^^^^
we didnt use the press..just a huge socket, piece of wood @ the bottom..and make sure you tap the outer part of the bearing..thats it..
get good bearings..not chinese..!!!

Really!! You got the old one out with a hammer, Damn. I was smacking the shit outta mine with a block of wood and a socket and half of the bearing practiacally fell out and the other half wouldn't budge. So we put it in the press and when the bearing finally came out it explaoded and it was so loud my ears were ringing. Well :clap2: to you , you are a freaking magician.

LOL..!!!! well...i dont know if it was magic..but those bastards went out slow but steady..and yes it was loud..believe it or not i was holding the hub in the air while the tech was hammering it out...!!!
