I have a clunk in my 98, 4x4 that with the use of the chassis ears at work is coming from the R.F It will only clunk at slower speeds when the brake is applied and when released it will clunk again. It won't do it at higher speeds, will do it in reverse.

The balljoints are 2 years old with not many kms, year old shocks and year old inner tie-rods. It feels like its under your feet when driving. I've rechecked the balljoints all ok, sway bar end links, brake calipers and used a prybar on the upper and lower control arms which also don't seem to move. I had someone drive it and held my hand on the torsion bar and hot the brakes and I could feel it. But the torsion bar has no signs of movement bakc and forth.

I'm at a loss right now and it's annoying.

Check control arms. I had similar issue once, turns out one of the bolts/nuts on my passenger upper control arm was loose. I was able to tighten it up with a socket and breaker bar.

Though, I have a 2WD truck, I'm sure your 4x4 has control arms as well.

Well nothing was loose, I've noticed on a lock to lock turn left or right it won't do this.

Wondering If I should just change the control ar bushings as big of a job as it is.

It'll do it forward or backward, 2 wheel or 4 wheel but not with full lock to lock steering. The CV joints feel ok and don't make noise at full lock turns like a bad one would.

clunk in front end

I just hade to change my wheel hub and bearings it didn't do it all the time but at lower speeds it would give a sort of clunk no pull of the wheel at all then it would stop for a while then come back. I lifed up the front end and wiggled the wheel and found it. Got new one at o rillys for $83.00 auto zone $125.00

Wheel bearings are tight, I laid under the creeper and let the GF drive over me -Smart I know-

Sounds like the t-case actully, thinking of the bearing of the output shaft, not an excessive amount of play but I can push on the yoke and she claims it sounds the same in the truck.

Slip yoke is fine, and the noise is getting worse. I think it'd transfering through the torsion bar to the rear crossmember. Only thought I have is control arm bushings at this point. Anyone ever have an issue?

Caliper mounts and pins are as tight as can be.

Wussed out and went to the dealership, the intermediate shaft was noisy since I bought the truck and thats what they are pointing fingers at. I doubt it'll fix the "NEW" noise but I ordered one anyway.
