I need help with trans and gearing. I want a better tranny or new gears in my truck. I suck on uphills, and I want closer gears in the tranny but I don't have any idea if the money is worth it. And what is the opinion on GEARVENDORS, I have heard mix info

PLEASE HELP

Probably help if you stated what combination you have now and what your expectations and goals are for the use of the truck. People get tired of dragging out the Ouija board to figure out what the hell people are asking.

oh ok well then 3.9L stage 1 intake(manifold, TB, and custom airhat and tubing), block back duel exhaust, 32.7x12.5x16, and one hell of a lift. I want my truck to do better on hills, and to shift a little better. I do great as long as my truck doesn't shift up or down. If it shifts up i lose power, if it shifts down then i rev way the hell up, I need closer gears or something

Something along the lines of 4.56 or 4.88 gears would probably make the most difference and make it so it will stay in the higher trans gears longer.

I am actually thinking of going to 4.56 with my 4.7 to make mine more drivable. The 3.55s I have now are just too tall a gear if you try to run it in 5th with any kind of weight or into the wind or up a steep grade.

Yea but u have a 5speed I don't, I have 3 and an over drive. I really think i might do a manual swap but what one to use it what i don't know. What is everyone running for there racing mods

if you get some tires over 33"+ then 4.88s wouldnt be bad, with 4.88s and a 32" tire your gear will be like a lowered dak with 4.10s = "4.2?" actual gear ratio, with a 32" tire and 3.55s lol you wont be happy ="3.11" actual gear which would be slower on take off then now and youll stay lower in rpms on the highway which is what im thinkin your complaining of now.

I thought I had a 9.25, but i could be wrong. Now i want better acceration but i don't wanna loose in the final gear rpms. So I am kinda stuck

Are u talking about for what gears i have now, i know what i have 3.55, its the tranny i can feel a total power loss in. the gears are so far apart i just loss an kinda rpm when that damn thing shifts. I know I can regear the rear but its no use if the tranny still sucks

I seriously doubt changing your trans will give you the results you want. The V6 will still suck power wise no matter what tranny you stick behind it with that high a differential gear and that big a tire.

About the only thing that will help your situation is lower rearend gears.

Even the 4.7 sucks with a combo like that because it doesn't start to make any power till about 2600 rpm. In 4th gear my 4.7 will actually go faster than it will in 5th gear because it is not lugging. The few extra rpm faster that the engine is running in 4th makes all the difference in the world performance wise.
