Someone Keyed the shit out of my daily driver. It's a really nice black 00 chevy xtreme and had an almost mint body until now. My neighbor is a retired body man and said it would cost around $1,200 for a body shop to fix. Any suggestions? I don't want to put much money into this truck, all of my spare change is for the kota.

Is it all the way through the paint to the primer or the metal? I had the the same thing happen to me but the asshole was to much of a pansey to even make it through the clearcoat in most places. I had a body shop guy I knew wetsand and buff the hell out of it and it is still in some places but just hardly and with a good coat of wax you can't see it anymore. Other than that i think your screwed and have to get it painted. Or check out your insurance policy i know some people have like only a $50 deductible and even if it is $500 it sure is a lot better than $1200. And sorry to hear about the keying, i still think back and wonder what i would have done to the guy if i caught him keying my truck....... it makes me so mad that somebody would do that because they have a problem with me and are to afraid to face me.

It's mostly throught the clear coat, there are only a few spots where I can see past the paint. I can't think of anyone who has any beef with me i think it was a random act of vandalism. The worst part of the deal is I only have liability. The chevy is a really nice truck for a daily and I hate to drive it around all scratched to shit but I can't justify paying for it to be fixed when I have the dakota as a show/project truck to spend money on. When I get batteries for the camera I'll post up some pics of the damage.

It pisses me off that these kids these days have no respect. They go around slashing tires, keying cars, breaking windows, stealing stereos or wheels, and spray painting new stripes for you. And half the time if they get caught they just get a slap on the wrist for first time offenders and their parents wind up footing the bill.

Hopefully their parents will be worse than jail.. I know mine was... I'd beg for jail instead of being sent home :jester:

My wife just her truck keyed and I believe we know who it was but I'd hate to kick the shit out of him and find out it was someone else.

Oh yeah those are deep:sorry:, way past wet sanding and buffing them out. I would say your best bet would be to get some touch up paint and try to fill in the scratches and then come back and blend it in by wetsanding it smooth and buffing it real good. It will probably take you a good amount of time and it won't be perfect but it won't be as noticeable either. I've had very good success with doing this with a few scratches on my truck that were that deep, i didn't have very many of them though and just used some of the dupli-color touch up paint pens.

Good Luck

And how do you know these were "kids" that did this?

BS, they will come out, not all the way, but a good sanding with some 1500 and then some 2000 will take away alot of the scratch, after you have it compounded have em put polish on it and then put a shit load of wax on it. I fixxed a 02 mustang that had "bitch" carved in the deck lid, and it was around the same shape and that, maybe worse
