Theres no sence in buying a cat....Go to a local store, buy a cat, and rip the insides out...Thats whats on my jeep, and thats whats staying...It works:wave:

Just a word of caution. Not all cats are built the same. I can install a no name economy converter, etest the car and it will fail. I can then install a name brand (ie magnaflow etc) on the same car, same etest, same day, it will pass easily. Not all cats are built equally............you get what you pay for I guess. I have installed the new Magnaflow spun cats on my TPI powered Jag and the car easily flew through its etest in May. Less than 10% of the allowable limits. If you want THAT style cat, I would recommend them.

Thats pretty sweet. I ended up with a magnaflow hiflow, for like 110.00 or so.

I installed it on my y pipe, put the 3 to 2.5 reducer on the end and its shooting into my cab..

I have a magnaflow muffler coming in on Monday, gonna have to buy a 2.5 inch flex pipe from autozone or wherever, hook that up, hook the muffler up, then drive it to a shop so they can professionally install the components. The y pipe is not parrallell with the ground its on an up angle, I think thats where my problem is starting.

If you're going to hollow it out, why not just take the cat out of the system completely.

Roadside inspection checkpoints. NJ has a sniffer in the real inspection, it would never pass with no cat.
How would a hollowed out cat pass inspection but taking out the cat completely fail it?

the only thing a hollowed out cat will pass is a visual.
That's what I'm saying. DaKoTa 35-2 recommended to buy a junkyard cat and hollow it out. To me that's a waste of time and money because taking the cat out altogether would produce the same end results.

Are you kidding. With scrap value where its at today, that junkyard cat is worth more than the new aftermarket cat your buying. People are litteraly crawling under brand new vehicles with a sawsall and cutting the converters off to sell them for scrap! No Shit!

Not for me....My truck yes...cause that takes a test on the computer hookup thingy...My jeep and his truck on the other hand in PA would only get a visual (which my Jeep will pass if it had a tailpipe:jester:)however I wasnt sure about NJ laws...

Collin county(TX) has emissions, but doesnt require a sniffer on OBDII vehicles. So you can have quite a bit of mods as long as your ECU doesnt throw any codes, and still pass. That and the shop I go to likes to pass people that seem 'cool'
