ok, first i wanna say the problem is not with my dur but this is definately the most helpful site ive been on so here's the issue. i have a 1981 datsun 210 1.5 I4 5 speed carbureted, its runs fine but for some reason it wont get above like 43 miles per hour. i know its not the transmission because the motor doesnt over rev when i hit it. it almost seems like its hitting a speed limiter. but its a 1981 so im pretty sure thats not it. im thinking blown head gasket or burned rings. any help would be GREATLY appreciated because this is my dd for the gas mileage

Check it out real good for vacummn leaks. With the engine at idle, spray some carb cleaner on the vac hoses and around the base of the carb. If you hit a leak, the rpms will jump up. I had almost the same thing happen to me on a '84 Nissian truck and had a bad gasket under the carb. I removed the carb to replace the gasket and the whole under side was gunked up with carbon. Cleaned it all up, replaced the gasket and was good to go!

Yeah I would guess some kind of vacuum leak from a gasket or hose too but also another thing to check is for a seized or dragging brake caliper or wheel cylinder. Happened to my friends car (couldnt get above ~45) and it took it a long time for it to smoke. I dont know how far you have driven it since this problem started but if it wasnt long enough for the problem brake to get that hot then you wouldnt have noticed yet.

You probably need your carb jetted or adjusted! That happens when it runs really lean.

I doubt a vacuum leak will stop the truck from going over 45mph....sounds more like possibly plugged exhaust or maybe a plugged catalytic converter

It's hard to diagnose over the web...you are gonna get a lot of different answers....
