Thanks for the info

I think the 4.10 would be my choice. I still need to drive this thing on the interstate and unlike Iowa we can drive over 70MPH on I-80. :joke: I would love bigger tires except I just got these tires in the summer. Thanks to both of you for the great info. Where should I start to price the parts?

70mph on I80  You go 70 on 80 and ur toast. :jester: If your going to stay with those tires then yea 4.10's would probably be the best bet. Its just alot of money to do a gear change so going as big as you can seems the best, especially if your thinking of bigger tires in the future.

What exact parts and cost would it take to move from a 4x4 3.55 open dif to a 4.10 LSD. I do plan on some light 4x4 and I hate the fact the 3.55 has to down shift to keep up to highway speed. I know the 4.10 will help some with this down shift issue but will it also make the truck run at a high RMP when I do the interstate. I have 265/70/R16 tires. Will the 4.10 be a good option?
You will be happy with the 4:10's. I have 32" tall tires and my freeway rpms @ 75 mph are about 2200 with the 4:10's. The Trucks moves out MUCH better than when it was stock, and it will pull 5% grades with no down shifting % 75 mph.

thats what im doing next, getting an lsd(i think?) and 4.10s(i think?maybe 4.56?)

mine is a 2wd with 3.55's/open though

im going more for drag racing rather than 4wheelin but it is my daily driver, so i dont want anything that will kill gas mileage or be way harder on the truck

i have 275/60/15s,, i was planin on eventually when i got the money getting 17's with the similar sized tire i got now. i heard u have to have a certain height of a wheel/tire or youll run out rpms?(i think thats what i heard)---is this true, would it be bad if i put in 4.10's with that the combination i have now, should i wait till i can get the 17's and do everything at the same time

my reason for wanting an lsd and 4.10's so bad is because i really wanna run d.o.t slicks at the track-i have an aful horrible time hookin up

-hope all that makes sense
:help: :help: :help: :help:

Being a DD and that size tire, definitely go with 4.10's.

The only time you'll "run out" or RPM's is if your gearing is low, and your tires are small. The reduction in your tranny would not be able to keep your RPM's low, so you'd basically be running very high RPM's at lower speeds. This ususally only happens with gears like 4.56's, or very small tires.

sorry if i sound stupid, but whats DD?

so if i got 4.10s with my present wheel/tire combo would i be gettin like 10 mpg and over revving my engine---do ya think i should wait till i got 17's?

DD = daily driver

You'd probably be fine with them right now. If anything, you might get better gas mileage.

:jester: Hey now, I can't recommend 4.56's to everyone.

I've gotten my gears, install kits, and Detroit Locker from them. Awesome guys to work with.
YellowKota2K - I want to thank you and everyone for the great info. Just think I could spend my money on my wife but now I can put it all in this truck. I think I will get the gears and wait for spring and do the swap. I sent an email to this place and asked exactly what parts I will need for my setup. Just to make sure if I change the gears in the back I also need to change the front in a 4x4 right?

No problem.

Depending on the LSD, they can range from $200 and up. Figure about $200 for the OEM Trac-lock. If I were you, I'd really look into the Detroit TruTrac. It's a clutchless LSD, which needs no additive and never wears out. It is available for the 8.25 axle, which I'm sure you have. I'm not sure on it's price, though I'm very sure it's worth it for most people over a clutch LSD.

Yes, that is correct.

ok, good to hear--i have the 9.25 axle, is that better or worse than 8.25?

I think you will be happy with the 4.10s. Your tires are just a little taller than mine. I run 295x50x16s on mine. The 4.10s seem to be a pretty good compromise since mine is a DD also. I tow and enclosed trailer loaded with motorcycles and gear with no problems, and I also race mine on occasion. I had the 4.56s first and unless you are going to run a taller tire I would not recommend them.

-i wouldnt mind 4.56's but i know the school im going to next year is gonna require about 25mins of hwy driving everyday so i dont want real bad gas mileage. so im gonna go with the 4.10's,,,i am eventually going to get 17's probably, but when i go to the track ill have some 275/50/15 dot slicks (mounted on my old rims)-so the 17's wont be hurtin me at the track. thats my plan :biggthump
now all i need is some more money :banana2:
