on 02 dakota r/t i have 3 cats stock.

i already removed the big one after the y pipe

Was wondering if i remove the two pup converters right off the manifolds will cause it to run like shit?

Yes. Been there, done that! Removed mine and installed 2 Simms boxes but the PCM never showed "ready" for State of NC OBDII inspection so I had to replace them. I heard of some of the guys leaving the pre-cat O2 sensors in the pipes and zip tying the post-cat sensors to the frame rail and having no problems. I've never tried that.

i have taken out the two cats on my 01. the front o2 sensors are in but you will have to hang the rears on the frame or buy o2 simms. at fist i had all the o2 sensors in and it did run like shit. after hanging the rear ones its completly fixed. good luck.

it worked for me. for some people it works and others it dont. the rear o2 sensors are there to make sure the cats are doing there job. as long as they have a different reading your fine. just try it and if the check engine light comes on. if it does just buy the simms. good luck.:mullet:

this is what i did i got a 99 y pipe drilled two holes for the precats sensors and put bungs in there so i can screw them in and just zip tied the after cats o2 sensors to the frame still connected and every thing no check engine light and performance gain the only thing i had to do was cut part of the trans that was in the way of the o2 sensor. other then that it works great.

The rear sensors make small adjustments. The precat sensors make the large admjustments and then the after cat sensors make whatever is needed from there. The chances are yours won't work with the zip tie trick. Mid year 2000 is about the newest you can go and not throw codes. It doesn't cost anything to try it out though.

mine is an 03. but now thows are gone also im am consitant at the track now as before it would change by a tenth often.

why don't you sell you and buy a hybrid so save it then!

after 2000 the code to monitor cat functionality wasn't even implemented in the PCM. That's what the rear 2 sensors are for. As long as the PCM "sees" the heater voltage for those sensors, it's happy. That's why simms can cause weird (tranny etc.) issues on some of the later trucks. Just tie them off to the frame rail, someplace safe, and be done with it.

I got rid of my pre cats and now use spark plug non foulers. I placed the front o2 sensors after my headers. About 6-8 inches down i welded in new bungs. I then screwed one non fouler into the new bung. I took another non fouler and drilled it out with a 1/2" bit and screwed that non fouler into the other. Next i screwed the o2 sensor in. This was down for both banks. This keeps the o2 sensor out of direct gas flow and tricks the pcm.
