A 318 can be stroked to a 390. Several people have done it. Makes a nice rev happy engine. Hughes Engines sells a stroker kit to do it as well, or you can pick up the pieces one by one as money permits.

someone on this thread said that the 5.9 would drop right in. Does that mean that it will bolt right up to the tranny of a 5.2 also? And would there be problems with the computer since the computer for the 5.9 doesn't know anything about 4 wheel drive?

Not possitive about the tranny, but yes, you'd have to find a computer for the same year as the motor. Your best bet would be just to get a Mopar computer and be done with it!! May as well spend 400 on it now, then 100 on a stock one, then later have to get a mopar one anyway....

just my .02...again..

do they make a 4x4 5.9? and what does the mopar computer do for you?
Yea I'm pretty sure they had some 5.9 4x4's! Well atleast in the Durango...

The computer will: "This controller adds spark, fuel, moves the rev limiter to 6000 rpm, removes the speed limiter, has a higher initial spark curve, moves the shift points from 4800 to 5200 and locks out the AC compressor under WOT. Not available for Dakota/Durango 2001+, must use a PCM flash or programmer."

Computer needs to match the year of the truck. If you are willing to spend $400 on a MP PCM, I'd get a custom flash on your stock PCM instead.

And thanx for the comp on the exhaust! :biggthump Wasnt begin a dick, just was in a hurry on my first reply! lol

I have a number for the guy that has the exhaust if you want to try to give them a call. that way you can atleast get a idea of the price before you go to the place near you.

i can see why a 350 in a s10 is giving him such a hard time. seeing as the earlier style s10s can weigh around 3200 mayeb even alittle less, they only need 200 to the ground to beat up on dakotas. which out of a 350 should be easy to come by.

we built my buddies 92 dakota with a 318. its the exact same block as a 360 so of course everything bolts up to it exactly the same. just the crank rods and pistons thats different. almost all 360 stuff with also fit into a 316. we change springs, retainers, rockers, pushrods, lifters and cam all with 360 stuff. we only had a bit of trouble at first blowing lifters cause the cam was really extreme and we kept hydrolic lifters but other than that, everything fit together real nice. last time he ran mid 12s on radials in the summer so that might give you some ideas.
