On the motor, under the top radiator hose. I think it's just 2 bolts, one on each side? I could be wrong. You'll lose a little bit of coolant though, just make sure you dry the area for the gasket and put it back in.

Damn, that guy is "going all the way up town just to cross the street"!!

Open the pitcock on the radiator to drain down some coolant. You will need a 1/2" socket, a long extension and a wratchet. Remove the 2 bolts that hold down the thermostat housing and remove the whole thing at one time. No need to remove the hose. Clean all the old gasket material off the intake and housing, install new thermostat, install new gasket and replace thermostat housing. A little tip about getting the bolts back in the intake, use a small piece of thin paper and place it over the end of the socket and then press the head of the bolt in the socket. The paper will make the bolt tight in the socket so it won't fall out while replacing it. Once the bolt is started, pull up on the socket and remove the paper. Replace the coolant making sure you have all the air out of the system and your all done.

ok i just took a look at my antifreeze and is very dirty green and brown so,where in the hell is the pitcock is it on the driver side or passenger side ?i got some kind of plastic covering the bottom of the radiator how do i remove the plastic ?

It's on the drivers side. You have to remove the push fasteners. The tool to use to avoid breaking them is a door panel removal tool. Pep Boys, Autozone etc have them. It has a Y shaped tip to pry them out.

make sure you get one with a good stiff handle for prying. the one i got from advanced auto parts was very flimsy, i wished i had gotten the more durable one but hindsite is always 20/20.
neverthe less they do work to remove those plastic buttons.
if you remove that cowling you should be able to do it without removing anything else.
good luck.

i just did mine on my 98 durango 5.2

i skipped alotta steps i suppose but did a lil extra at the same time

worked out great for me!!!

open rad pressure cap

looking at rad just through arm down on right side feel and at the bottom of rad ull find a plastic wing screw type thing...just unscrew it and coolent will flow down....i left the plastic stuff on the bottom and all the coolent still came out in one spot....found no need to remove it

once all drained tighten it back up...i then took off the upper rad hose from the upper radiator....took out the two bolts from the thermo stat housing...and just wiggle it out with the hose and should come out

i then cleaned the gasket crap off the housing....i also left the thermostat in while cleaning the top of crap so nothing would fall in....

took out thermostat and I put on housing again....stuck a garden house in upper rad hole made a seal with my hand...cranked her up and let the water flow through....water will come out of upper rad hose....i did that till it came out clear...also had heater settings on max so it went through heater core

once that was done i opened up rad drain plug again...while doing that i took of housing again and placed in new thermostat tightened it up by then it was done draining tightened it up and filled the system back up properly

worked great for me

you might not want to flush it out like i did...just rust was in my fluid so i did

have a good one...

To quote someone else, I "went down town" rather then cross town.

pry apart a few of those plastic snaps then get my arm and wrench up there and removed the 2 bolts on the housing, drain fluid, replace t-stat, rebolt housing, redo plastic snaps. done
:)
