So im graduating class of 2010 from RiverView high school hence my name riverviewpowerh (cut off house)

So I have a 2.5 gpa and my last report card was high honor roll so im trying to bring my grades up freshman year and sophmore year I had a niche for failing classes but switched to a nice school.

Im really worried about what to do???

My first choice was the military... but I hear my broken ankle and recent plate and screw surgury cuts that idea

2nd was police force but I have to have 2 years at minimum of college

Im open to any ideas I just want a job that is dependable and pays good my dad is a city cop for tampa and he has alot of nice shit cause of his bank roll

So what are my options??? Id be cool to hear from the guys on the forum cause you all seem stable money wise all have nice trucks

thanks

that was funny. read the bad news section sometime.

i have 2 bucks and some change right now in my checking account and have been trying to find a job for months now. and not saying my truck is junk by no means but the internet makes trucks look better than what they actually are in most cases.

dont have any advice on the job thing bc i myself am in the same boat. best thing i could tell you is just go APPLY EVERYWHERE YOU POSSIBLY CAN...

not necessarily the best way to find a CAREER. but its a job.

and dont be lazy. at least go to a 2yr school and get an associates. i mean damn...

my 4yr college plan aint exactly workin out so what im doin for now is:
2yr school. find a job i could possibly make a carrer out of. and after working for a year or so (or actually when i can afford it) go back to school.

cmon man. i just graduated this past spring 09... so its not like im much older than you. i say probably just a few months. do something. and quit makin our generation look bad. find a 2yr school. and go to it. the way your post sounded was like you didnt want to go to college. dont be lazy. dont be ignorant. a high school diploma doesnt mean what it use to.

no in no means am I lazy I plan on school just dont know what to do on the side I been working at moes southwest grille for 1 year and 4 months but im injured once im better my boss is hiring me back but I make good money at that little resturaunt lol I just dont wanna be there for ever

oh i hear ya. thats one reason why i refuse to go back to my last job. i hated it and the pay sucked... fuckin Fun Park... honestly i'd rather break my leg, again, than go back to work there. but i think its just gonna come down to me goin back if i dont find another job SOON.

if i were you, i'd go back to MOES for the time being. its a guaranteed job waiting on you. and good money? just till you get out of school and get on your feet with a real job.

and didnt mean to jump on you like that. it just really pisses me off when kids our age dont see that with out some sort of secondary education... its hard to find a decent job.

I'm the same way, I think I have more like a dollar. I graduated in 09' as well. It's true that the internet makes our trucks look amazing. But there's a lot more than meets the eye. I felt like taking a year off of school, but I realized that would be a huge mistake. Because the more you want to wait it out, the more your going to keep saying that to yourself. I'm probably around the same age if not a year older than you. I know how you feel about the military, but the thing is, if you do your four years and you don't continue. Your going to need something to fall back on. And if you don't have an education... well... You might know where I'm going with that. But hey, as the guy above me said. Apply places and get a little job for now, hey... it's money. I am doing the whole 2yr thing because I fucked up not only Freshman and Sophomore year. But even Junior year where I just decided to let other people take control of my life and not attend. I'm lucky I graduated with a Advanced Diploma and even a 2.0GPA. Don't sit around and do nothing, but do atleast something. Go to an 4yr college or start off at a 2yr college and transfer. In the mean time you can get a job and get some extra cash. Anyways, I don't want to be ranting but hey, no one has gotten the things they have by not doing nothing. Just don't sit around and tell yourself you will do things later or push things till later on, it will come back and bite you in the ass. :blahblah:

End Rant.

and yes i do agree although pictures hide bad things about the trucks... there are a lot of nice things about our trucks that are unable to be captured by the miracle image capturing shutter we like to call a camera.

also... what is this? how come us young people are the only ones giving any input? where's the experienced mofo's at?

You know what's good! But true about the camera thing, it hides a lot of the flaws. A little bit of photo editing can do that for you. But you can't see in photo the actual amount of hard work put into something when your staring at it in person. lol.

& once your healed and shit. If you want to do the Coast Guard thing, do it. Just make sure your healed and ready, because they will ask you if you had any physical injuries etc and from what I know from talking to recruiters, they could deny you. Aswell as having like ADD or ADHD, some of the people I know in the military told me just not to tell the recruiter cause they put it down.

&& true about only us young folk giving input lol.

Good, get a your job back, even though you may hate it... It's job experience and basically if you want to go somewhere else, you can put that down. I feel you on being able not to work. When I was working I broke my arm... And well doc said I couldn't work for 6 weeks. I feel your pain man. It sucks. Just do what you can for now, but don't give up.

Your lucky that you had an older sibling to take you to school, I never had that convenience. Now my brothers are always asking me to take them to school and shit... PITA. But yeah, Coast Guard is a good option. Pays for your college and gives you some good training. Also if you stay in long enough, you get Retirement blah blah. You probably heard this if you have talked to a recruiter. :p

i don't know if you can consider me a young guy or old man. i graduated in 2004 and recieved my BS after 4 years. i've been working doing MRI for almost 3 years now. i've also been debating going back to school.

as for what i recommend, go to a VERY cheap school for a year and just take a wide range of classes to see what you are interested in. once you get an idea of what you like, take it from there. also don't go to a 2 year or 4 year college/university and have a major that will get you nowhere after you graduate.

good luck.

The military's not a bad gig, I did nine years active duty in the Navy, then used my clearance and experience to land a job with Lockheed Martin, been with them for eight years now. But if you can go to college, do that first, get your degree and go in as an officer. Better pay, less bullshit.

Why not go to school? Education is one thing that can never be taken away from you, even if you want to do something that doesn't require a degree it is always nice to have a backup. Plus if you go for 2 or 4 years it will give the job market a little bit more time to turn around.

how is doin mris? you like your job? good benifits and pay? cause I wanted to be a mechanic but I want a stable job

I have a long answer to your short question and a short answer to cap it off...

here is food for thought...instead of thinking what you are going to DO and letting what you DO in life define who you are.. think about how you want to define your life ( what you want, kinda house, kids, wife, cars, family, savings, time spent doing whatever) and then work backwards and figure out how much you need to make, how much education or training you need to make that, where to get that education or training. and then finally DO it.

All too often people in high school and middle school are drilled with "what are you going to DO"{emphasis on DO} almost putting the solution in front of the problem. which is confusing as hell and leaves you as a person washed in wallowing ideals and directions.

Granted, this type of thinking is usually corrupt with visions of living like puff daddy or g-giggy ODB seen on MTV, and for 98% of people that lifestyle is not obtainable but still sought after by the younger generations. You need to be real and honest and set the goals to make what you want happen.

Another thing to think about is what to DO when you do start working toward your sought-after lifestyle. will you spend your money on a house as soon as you can or buy some flashy car. will you invest in PASSIVE income or take the girls out and get some "crunk" on.

Its all how you stack your cards. and at your age you can make a lot of good decisions and bad decisions. but you have time to remedy the bad decisions. So whats my short answer to you short question? Go to school for a specific study/join the military/trade school. its the easiest way to an income that you can invest in passive income and retire early, wealthy, and "successful"..but only YOU cna decide if that will make you happy.

good luck

I can understand the GPA, I had a 2.7 freshmen year @ my HS. Graduated in 09 with a gpa of 3.6, did great on ACT/SAT's and AP exams, got a scholarship (About to lose that scholarship) and right now, I'm currently a semester behind in college because I bombed calculus. College courses ate about 10X harder then HS courses, but more fun, any one that's determined can do it!. For every 1 hr I spend in class I have about ~3 hrs of outside HW and studying. My synr yr in HS I had about 2 hrs of hw/study a week for all my classes. College is all about time management (time to log off DD LOL!)

I'am fuckin dirt poor, living on loans, mooching offa friends and eating top ramen every night. I stay in the library till it closes and bust ass. In HS I had the mindset that I didn't really care about school, now I care because I really want to be an engineer. Homework changes from a chore, to a tool you can learn by. I don't drive my truck, only for fun, I take public transportation in order to save money, I commute 60miles round trip every day. I hope to get a job so I can start paying back my loans. Originally started college off as an EE, just changed to ME. Professors love it when you come into their office hours, I go in and talk about anything from schoolwork, to life in general.
Do not choose an major because it will make you the most $$, choose something that you will want to do for the rest of your life and enjoy. Who wants to have an horrid job, go home with lots of $$ and have no time to enjoy it?

I had friends that got into college with 2.7 gpa's, you have to bug the shit out of admissions, and it completely depends on the college. If you cant get into a university, go to community college your freshmen year and take your core classes you can restart with a NEW GPA!!, save a ton of $$ and stress. After CC get into an university.
IMHO it's worthless to go to a university with an "undecided" major when you could have went to CC, and taken the same classes for a lot less $$. If you are poor, and your parents are poor, apply for financial aid.

A college education is now becoming the new HS degree, without it you will have a large "glass ceiling" over your head. You have to do hard work to get ahead in life; nothing is handed to you.

Experienced mofo's arnt driving nine year old dodge Dakota's :D

Here is what I learned. You can be smart as fuck, and know alot about a subject, but you wont get that job you want without a college degree. I went to a Tech school after highschool for automotive collision. Ended up getting a job at a Aircraft Refurb company. I have a pretty good job now, but I wanted to eventually work my way up to engineering department.

I refuse to settle for what I am just "Qualified" for, so in May im quiting my job and starting a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I could either work my up, and Possibly make 45k/year in 5 years, or just go to school and start out at 55k/year doing something where I actually get to use my brain!

You dont need a good GPA to get accepted into a college, employers wont even look at your High School GPA, so get that out of your head.

it's fun, but just like any other job, it has its ups' and downs'. it can also be very stressful at times. i'm getting paid fairly well. look at it this way, i graduated with a hair over 400 people. i'm probably getting paid more than 385 of those kids and there were a lot of smart people in my graduating class. the job has great benefits as well. having health insurance is great and i took it for granted before my accident.

depending upon which school you apply to and what program, yes a good GPA is a must. i'm going to apply for my master's in the fall next year and the program won't even touch anyone without at least a 3.8 GPA.
