Hey guys about to purchase a hi output alt and came across this. I think I read on here somewhere that alts for a grand cherokee would fit directly in place? I have a 98 3.9 and was wondering if this would fit? Looking for a direct bolt up so someone please chime in and let me know.

Talked to the seller and they said it would work but thought id ask the guru's here first. Thanks guys

Well if you want an opinion, I'd say stick to an OEM alternator. Problem with most of the re-wound aftermarket high amp alternators is they sacrifice low rpm amps for larger high rpm amps. So while it's rated at 220 amps, it won't hit that till about 2K RPMs. You want to look at the amps at idle. If it's not putting out at least 60-70 amps @ 650 RPM then I wouldn't buy it.

it says its capable of putting out 100 amps at 800 rpm...the full 220 at 1600

I know of a few guys on here that run a 165 from the same company and they said nothing bad about them...

100/800 = 0.125 and 220/1600 = 0.1375

Average that to .13125, multiply by 650... you should get about 85 amps at idle.

I agree with hskrt, but from what you're calculating (not official word from them) it's iffy.

Also, regarding what would fit and what wouldn't fit, I use Rockauto.com to look up parts. When you get a part number you can see what other vehicles that part number is used on also. Great feature.

anyone know how many amps the 160 puts out at idle? I need something that can handle atleast 2000 watts if not more.
