Anyone here with a 2.5?? I'm considering a GenII 2.5L as a daily driver... how are they on gas?

22 in the city?? Do you mean highway?? hmm... maybe I should be looking somewhere other that a truck for my daily driver... :(
According to the EPA results, the 3.9 isn't really a whole lot worse on gas than the 2.5... does that sound right?

The 2.5 isn't all that much better on gas. You have to lose the weight, in other words, go with a car having the same amount of power. You will get much better gas milage and a lower weight to horsepower ratio.

The worst thing you could do would be buying another dakota (dispite the engine) for a daily driver.

The 3.9L motor is worce milage than the 4.7L.

The 2.5L will get 20-22mph in the CITY, and about 25 on the highway(IF you don't try and pass people all the time).

I suggest doing what the other guy said,... which would be getting a small little car with a tiny motor, and lay off the juice pedal.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go that route and just find a different car... I knew another dakota as a daily driver would be a bit of a stretch, I just wanted another dakota :biggthump

Or you can find a Gen1 with the 3.9l I get about 24mpg on the Freeway and thats with 3.55 SG and driving it at 80mph. I paid a 1000 dollars for my Gen 1 and Im almost scared to remove the motor out of it. For the simple fact that motor purrs like a kitten and hasnt gave me 1 problem whatsoever.Just a thought :biggthump

I know there's a big difference in mpg I had a 91 with the 2.5 and got 25mpg. My 92 3.9 gets @16mpg. It's a big enough difference with gas being shitty to make me wish I had the wussy 2.5 again
Sounds like a bad 3.9. My 5.2 is getting 18 and many 3.9 owners are getting over 20. Was the 3.9 in a 4x4?

on these trans the ouput speed sensor (oss) will get packed up with shavings once your trans is toast. I've cleaned it once and got my cruise control and normal shifting back only to lose it 2 weeks later. I just need to get off my lazy ass and rebuild it or do a 5spd conversion.
