What sort of info are you looking for? I recently installed my Viper Brakes. Would have been a super simple install, but my bushings were worn, and replaced my lower balljoints all at the same time. I would say the fronts would take about 6 hours total. Back is fairly simple as well. I was a little hesitant about pulling the axles, but really was simple. Hardest part of the install was getting the new stainless steel lines on. And that was cause Dodge puts the connections in the worse place to get at.

If you have any more questions, you can email me at [email protected]

Cost depends on what all options you want. I would give Scott a call and see what pricing he offers for just the front kit. If you are looking at staying cheaper, the rotors is gonna be the big place to save some money. You can go with the stock rotors, rather than the high end Eradispeeds.

My complete Kit was right around $3300. That included the powdercoating on the front calipers, then rebuilding them, stainless steel lines, Baer Eraidspeed 2 peice rotors and rear beauty covers for the rear calipers.

Scott can usually get a set of used stockers. Check with him to see what he can get a hold of. Otherwise, keep your eye on ebay and such.

Rock-

Since you are not really planning on racing your D, which is pretty much the only reason why you might NEED these brakes and you are basically running a stock motor with some mods but not nearly enough horsepower to get you up to a speed where you would need performance brakes, try this on for size. Get some slotted and drilled rotors and go with some nice calipers and paint them RED. You will get the Viper look without the price tag. Seems a little more worth it to me. This is something that I was throwing around in the back of my head for my rig.

that's exactly what I was thinking goon. pickup some drilled and sloted rotors, upgrade my pads and paint my calipers blue or black. price tag for that should be around $300. No drag race'n for my D except on the street :nono:

So about $3300 to put the viper kit on front and back? Converting the drum brakes in rear to the disc brakes. How much will it help?

Is there a cheaper kit that has the same performance, but not the looks (Don't care what it looks like, noone will be able to see them anyway).

Yes, the $3300 is for front and back. That included the calipers (powdercoated), replacement spindles, brackets, Eradispeed Rotors, and stainless steel lines.

As of now, I do not know of any other kits out there that have the same look or stopping power. There may be, just I don't know who makes them. The front calipers are 4 piston front, single piston rear, 13" Eradispeed 2 piece drilled and slotted rotors.

I can definitely feel how much better it stops now. Several people have ridden in my truck with both and say it stops so much better now. I do not have any numbers to compare the stock to my setup, so no proof other than what I feel while stopping.

Rock,You can do replacement rotors and clean-up the calipers for around 300.00,

The factory rotors are 10.5 or 11 inch,The Vipers are 13 inch,Calipers are four piston over the stock two piston,Theres alot going on the the upgrade,

Theres always a way to do it cheaper,If you want a better performer,Drilled and Good pads can do that,I went for the 3000.00 because I wanted the Larger calpiers and rotors behind those large wheels

Scott can do the fronts for 850.00-1500.00 and that depends on the ROTORS,Factory will be cheaper,The Baer two peice and Rebuilt calipers powdercoated with new pads will get you at or around 1400-1500

Good-luck with whatever you STOP at

Is it reasonable to paint the rear drums? Or am I just going to be wasting my time? I think that it would look pretty sweet to have my front calipers and my rear drums painted or powder coated candy red behind my silver rims. :chug:

2003 brake upgrade on 1998-2002?

I'm new to modding Dodges, but have done some research on the Durangos for when we sell our 1998 SLT. I see the 2003 models got bigger (12.x") front brakes than the 1998-2002 models (11.x"). We have owned two 1998 Durangos, and the brakes have been lousy on both (we have not tried slotted rotors & HP pads though). I believe they are undersize for the application, and apparently Dodge did too since they put bigger rotors on the 2003 models.

What this is leading up to is putting the 2003 brakes on a 1998-2001. On my 1995 Trans Am, Pontiac put undersize (10.x") rotors on it. The 1998 up models had larger rotors and it is a relatively simple procedure to put those style brakes on the car. I ended up putting C5 Vette brakes with slotted rotors & Hawk HP pads on mine (12.8" rotors with lots of aftermarket & GM support) and the difference is night & day :toast: . The brackets were like $250, the rotors $200, the calipers $150, the SS brake hoses about $75, and the labor was of course free :) .

I plan on looking into this since the truck my wife wants is a Patriot Blue 2001 R/T  (color unavailable on the 2003 R/T  ) and I want her to have the best brakes possible (on our budget anyway). I'm thinking someone has tried to do this or has done it.

I suppose then the next issue is finding performance pads & rotors for the 2003 brake setup.

FWIW, I tried to talk her into keeping the '98 and putting a 406 in it with a blower :D but got shot down.

I got cross drilled slotted rotors on my durango with Hawk pads and I could tell a difference in stopping power. They stop just as good in deep puddles on the road as they do with no puddles. I'm happy with just that.
