I am just wondering if anyone knows about these? Are they necessary? I bought a bumper and it won't fit with it on there. SO am I just f'd or can I get rid of it. Thanks all for any input.

On my 02' I had to pull mine off in order to put a hitch on the back. On my 03' I pulled it off because the thing weighs a ton and I like to save weight.

I am also wondering about this. I am wanting to take it off because it just adds more weight but is there a reason why it is on there? and if i take it off will it screw anything up?

you wont notice a difference unless your in a accident. that's all its there for. I took it off of my 04 to mount my roll pan and off of my 02 for a my box tube back half

I took mine off when I installed my hitch, didn't change anything. :banana2: One more POS the factory had to put on instead of real sound proofing or something useful.

Approximately how much does the damper weigh?

I would guess about 40lbs. at least. Its heavy. suprised me how heavy the thing was when I took the bolts out.
