NUMBER: 08-023-03

GROUP: Electrical

DATE: July 18, 2003

THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-041-00, DATED DEC. 15, 2000, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS**. THE REVISION ADDS 2002 AND 2003 VEHICLES AND REVISES THE PARTS TABLE.
SUBJECT:
Intermittent Locking/Unlocking Of Doors Without Activating The Power Door Lock Switch

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing new door/liftgate lock cylinder switches.

MODELS:

**2000 - 2003** (AB) Ram Van/Wagon

**2000 - 2003** (AN) Dakota

**2000 - 2002** (BR/BE) Ram Truck

**2000 - 2003** (DN) Durango

NOTE :THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH VEHICLE THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM (SALES CODE LSA).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The door locks will intermittently lock and/or unlock without any activation of the power door lock switch or a clicking sound may be heard coming from the power door locks (repeated locking or repeated unlocking). The condition may occur more frequently in damp conditions such as driving the vehicle in the rain or taking the vehicle through a car wash.

DIAGNOSIS:

Vehicles that demonstrate this condition may have water weeping into the door/liftgate lock cylinder switches causing the switch to intermittently short across the internal circuit. This in turn may signal the Central Timer Module (CTM) to activate the power door locks. Because of the nature of this problem, it is extremely difficult to diagnose this condition. Therefore, customers that indicate their doors intermittently lock and unlock without having the door lock switch activated or customers that indicate they hear a repeated clicking noise coming from the door locks should have the Repair Procedure performed on their vehicle.

PARTS REQUIRED:
NOTE :**The passenger side door lock cylinder switch has been eliminated on 2002 and 2003 Durangos and on 2003 Dakotas built after April 7, 2003 (MDH 0407XX)**.

There's a clip that holds the cylinder to the handle. If they punched it, they most likely broke the inside retainer off the handle, and the whole thing needs to be replaced.

There's an armor plate you install inside the door that will keep that from happening again, I forget what it's called.

I've got this issue, but I've got other issues that may be related and wondering if if anyone knows if the following are related. The drivers side door lock switch doesn't work and the passenger side switch only works to unlock...sometimes. When the doors are locked with the remote and it has this random locking issue, the security light on the dash blinks fast rather than every ~10 seconds like it normally does. Also the automatic locking at 15 mph doesn't work anymore. Just wondering if these issues go along with the TSB or is there some type of computer that controls these things that are malfunctioning. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Stephen
Edit: I fixed the locking at 15 mph part. Somehow that option was turned off. Then as far as the passenger door lock switch goes, when I try to lock the door it does nothing, but when I try to unlock the doors it tries to lock but only after I release the button. There is something funky going on there.

If it's just the one switch not working, I have a feeling yours is just that switch that has gone out. The single switch from Autozone is like $32. I think mine is all related to either the TSB or some computer that controls locks and alarm because mine all started at the same time.

I tried Tazrango's techinque on how to reset the locks from engaging but didn't get any chime. All I got was a P505 code that came up on the display. Also, the locks still engage at 15 mph. HOwever, if I disengage them while driving, they won't re-engage.

Anybody have a clue about how to make this work on an '01 Durango? What's a 505 code?

Thanks.

I still haven't ripped into replacing the door lock cylinder switches, but need to soon. Can anyoone point me to a site where I can get free instructions on how to disassemble the door panels and remove the cylinder switches? I don't want to break any fasteners, etc. when I pull the door panels off.

I have a similar problem to mopar yeah... Except I can only roll down ANY window from the drivers door. None of the other switches work. Is my window lock button (switch), bad? I was a little disappointed to see the switch is not by itself, but part of a cluster in the door panel which houses all of the door, and window switches. Can I bypass this window lock switch? Undo the wires at the switch and connect them straight up? Anyone done this? Thanx guys.
