Transmission swap

My truck does not like to go up large hills as it won't down shift while under load. I have a 2002 dakota sport. I have a 2003 durango I can use the transmission out of. Does anyone know if it will work?

As long as they’re the same transmission you shouldn’t have a problem. Figure out your transmission model you have. If the durangos a 4.7 it will have a 45re if it’s a 5.9 it will have a 46re

You may not need a different trans it could be just a bad sensor, if you have all of the gears and it just doesn't downshift there very possibly is nothing wrong that couldn't be fixed with the transmission in the truck. Like tps sensor, map sensor get it scanned first by a competent honest transmission man before condemning the transmission

I second having a competent diagnosis done first. I have the 4.7l 45rfe in an '01 Dakota. Shift issues & limp mode started due to a failing 1st to 2nd solenoid. Had solenoid pack, TRS plate, transducer, & speed sensors replaced. Was about a two hour job at the dealer's & all good.
