Hi all, new here, so my first question is..
I am looking at a 2002 Dakota 3.9 v6 4X2 that needs a trans.
What years, models and engine size transmissions will fit this truck?
Thank you, looking foward to your replies,
Bretton

You can use the 42, 44, and 46RE's from 2001 to 2003. The 42 went behind the 3.9, the 44 went behind the 5.2, and the 46 went behind the 5.9. Any will work with your truck but stay between those years, as I believe 2000 was a connection switch on the PRNDL switch.

Would a 4.7 tranny mount up with just some basic modification? I.E switching plugs from old tranny and torque converter?

No, way different. Even transmission control is different.

yep. auto. those will all bolt up but beware the 46re has a different shifter setup than the 42re. I ended up using a stack of washers, and welding one piece higher up and cutting the rest off the 42re bracket and the dipstick tube doesn't fit perfectly, I just force mine into place which is fine, but it's in the way of the intake tube a bit, no problem for me im not that picky but others might.

If the 42re is out of a ram. If it's from a dakota it should have all the stuff unless the seller removes it.
