I have a 09 dakota st that has a 42rle transmission. I bought a 05 dakota slt due to ecu issues on 09. So the transmission is bad on the 05 dakota and I want to swap transmission from 09 to 05.. it's missing a plug in on the 05 that the 09 has. So could I swap the transmissions or not?

Is the 05 a V6 also?
The V8 has a 545RFE transmission, which is not interchangeable.

Are both trucks 2wd, or 4wd?
For 2WD vs 4WD transmissions, the only difference on a 2WD is that you have a tail housing bolted on where the 4WD has the transfer case.

Not sure about the plug issue that you mentioned, maybe a picture of it would help.
