I've got a '00 Dakota Quad Cab w/3.9, auto. While driving on the highway at roughly 120 km/hr (or 74 mph) I sometimes get a "slippage" sound.
The engine is at 2000 rpm then will go up about 200 rpm for 1 second, then back down to 2000 rpm. The further I drive it the more frequently this happens. However, it doesn't happen all the time.
It almost sounds as though I've got a little bit of air in the line?

Anybody got any ideas of what's going on?

I'd rather do a little bit of maintenance work on it now rather than have to replace the transmission later!

TPS sensor

Just so everone knows, it was the tps sensor causing the problem. Bought one locally ($43 vs $98 at the dealership!), installed it, and presto - no more surging!
Thanks for the advice.

You Guys ROCK!!!

I know this is an old thread, but I just bought a used '01 Durango with 98000 miles and the seller said the tranny was going. After a quick search and a TPS replacement, no more problems. THANK YOU, I love all of these forums. :banana2:
