My '00 Durango R/T has had alot of problems when it shifts. It seems like it can't decide between 1st and 2nd gear. Had the tranny fluid changed and it worked fine....for about 3 months. Now it is doing the same thing. It almost feels like it is slipping. Any suggestions?

Hi, do you find that going uphill at about 12-15mph it hunts between 1-2. I am an auto trans tech at the Dodge dealer here and have had this complaint before. I have repaired 1 by adjusting throttle pressure in the valve body, otherwise have ended up replaceing the valve body in all the others. Sometimes software in the PCM can cause this type of condition.

That sounds exactly like what mine does. The dealer I went to said my fluid was low, but otherwise normal. I'll take this info to them next time, since I changed the fluid, and it still has probs. Thanks for the info. I'll post what I found out.

HI,
Im new to the board but need help. My D shifts fine from 1 - 2 but dosent seem to know when to shift form 2 - 3. About 1 in 10 times it is fine and the other times it revs way up before shifing. Once in 3rd it goes between 3 - 4 no problem. It does seem to be getting worse. Can anyone help! It is a 99 with a 5.9. I have tried blipping the throttle and even just letting off and it still dosent want to shift. I have also tried shifting it manually with no real improvment? It dosent feel like it is slipping when it shifts. It seem that it just isnt even trying.
Have you gotten your problem solved?

had EXACTLY the same symptoms ... the fix was a tranny re-build.. to replace the seals. for a mere $1500

In particular the seal on the "direct drum" leaks when it gets old (at around 60 K) because the groove on the direct drum was cut too deep .. right from the D-C factory

good luck on the re-build .. and make sure they use ATF+4 to fill the tranny

I replaced the govenor solenoid, govenor pressure sensor and a line pressure sensor. Also changed the tranny filter and fluid. It has shifted fine since. Total cost of less than 200. I read on another thread that someone else had the same problem and that is what they did to fix it so i figured for 200 and about 1.5 hours work it was worth a try....wish everything worked out that way.

hope your fix did the trick!
my tranny was diagnosed by 3 different tranny shops and they said all the pressures were normal, so replacing the stuff you did would not help (in my case)

wish i coulda gotten away with only $200

having the exact same tranny problem, mine started at 42K getting progressively worse, now at 65k..no sign of leakage tho
