Had my transmission "flushed" by the Dealer at about 60K miles ... I think it was a BAD idea ... 2 weeks later the 2-3 shift started "flaring" ... coincidence ?? not!

I was too dumb to realize at the time what they were doing ... now its in for a re-build

Any others with bad experiences after a "flush" ???

IMO, the pan should have been dropped, and the filter(s) changed as per the owners manual .... "change transmission fluid and filter and adjust bands" every 30K miles ... this is obviously NOT the same as a "flush"

Dropping the pan and changing the filter will only replace about 1/2 the fluid in the transmission.

I drop the pan, change the fluid/filter, annd in 4 qts of new fluid. I then remove the pressure side line from the bottom of the tranny and start the engine and allow the fluid to pump out until new fluid is flowing. I then reattach the line and fill the tranny.

It replaces less then half. You should do it more then 2 times.

When doing it

First off you need a buddy to help. (no BEER before it's done)
Drop the pan Clean out the pan check to see what's in the pan. I wash out the pan in the parts cleaner, install a new filter reinstall the clean dry pan.

Then remove the trans cooling lines. test out witch one is the out line.
(you will also need some rubber hoses) this is where your buddy is needed.
Have him start the truck, see witch one is the out line, make sure that both lines are in a pail. Turn off the truck. Fill the pail for the in-line. I use about about 10 -12 qts of trans fluid for the first time. Now your flushing out your trans.

Once your clean oil is almost done turn off the truck. reinstall the trans cooling lines.
Drop the pan for the last time. clean out change the filter.
Top off the trans fluid. run for a short time recheck the level add if needed, check for leaks.
For your frist trip out bring your old oil to the place you got the new.
Recheck again.
You maybe be checking a few more times. (well thats just me)


Items you'll need
1: a buddy
2: 2 filters
3: some gaskets
4: a lot of trans oil
5: 2 peices of rubber hose (not sure what size) ((look at the trans cooling lines))
6: a few 5gal pails more the better

I always use two new filters. One after I drop the pan for the first time.
And one after the flush.
