I have a 2004 QC 4WD 4.7L with 545RFE without the tow package and was needing input from owners that tow without the tow package..any overheating issues?
I have already switched from 3.55 to 3.92 gears. I am planning on installing an Automatic transmission cooler. I am thinking of replacing the standard cooling radiator (1 row; 1 1/4" core) with the max cool (2 row; 1 1/2" core)...Is that needed or does the standard cooling radiator do ok?
I will be towing 3700# travel trailer (un-loaded weight) with weight distribution hitch; installed trailer brake controller and am running on Load Range D (8 ply) LT tires

I'm new here so I apologize if this has already been discussed. Just link me in the right direction
Thanks

I towed a fully loaded 6x12 Uhaul box from NJ to Kansas - twice, no issues, except at the Appalachians. Had to use the truck lanes at about 30mph on the uphill parts to keep it from burning up, but we're talking like 9% grades.

Actually what a coincidence.. Just today I had to tow my Mazda 6 on a Uhaul Auto Transporter (the full size 2-axle trailer, not the dolly) 350 miles to the nearest dealer and back because the "smart key" system went braindead.

The trailer and car weigh about 5500lbs (the trailer is over a ton by itself), and I was actually really surprised at how well it did. The temp was just a little over where it is normally (still below the 210 line). I don't have the factory tow package/oil cooler, mine has the 'dealer option' package that just includes the class 4 hitch and 7 round electrical connector. Only time it really heated up was when I turned on the A/C. My gas mileage wasn't even as bad as I was anticipating. I averaged 11.3mpg round trip according to the overhead.

I have a extra HD radiator in the garage if you want to PM me.

Dodge seems to have set both the tow preped and non tow preped trucks up well. The secondary electric fan kicks on at roughly between 216-219 degrees to bring temps back down if the clutch fan is not keeping up. A trans cooler is definitely a good idea or a larger transmission pan. IMOP they are cheap insurance.
