tow hook idea

ok so when i found out that there are no hooks for a 2k-04 dak i got bummed. But i got the idea from kotakid287 to put f-150 tow hooks on it so i went out and baught a pair and as far as i can tell from just holding them up behind the bumper the'll fit with a ittle trimming of the holes in the bumper. I'll post pics as soon as i get them in which could be a couple days cuz its snowing here. :mullet:

What's so different in the front frame from 97-99 and 2k+ dakotas? I wouldn't think they changed that much. IIRC from helping my dad install his on his 99, there was a bar that was installed to stiffen the frame then the hooks installed to that bar. Never researched that far into it when I had my 01 Dak, but I think it would be a nicety on the new durango.
It must suck having holes in the valance with no hooks nor mounting holes for hooks and no hooks to buy. Talk about :fail2:
I totally missed this thread lol. The hooks I got were off of a 05 F-150, not exactly sure why they were removed lol, but I wound up with them for free. I just bolted them to the front of the frame rails and cut enough of the plastic bumper away to actually use them, I wasn't really concerned with how it looked as I did and still do want to make some kind of a steel or tube bumper for the front of her. If I would have actually cared how it looked, I'm sure I could have done better but Function > Form.
i've been thinking about the hooks they made for the older daks. and the front hitch idea. and i was thinking about two brakets that bolt to the sides of the frame that came down like 3" just above where the holes in the bumper are and then a a like 4" wide 1/4" steel plat that went across and then like two pieces that went back off that to the front crossmember. and bolting like the hooks off the older rams or GM's to that so they stick out the holes in the valence
Since this is the most "recent" thread on tow hooks, here is a side shot of what I did.

thats kinda the idea i had. okay so i talked to a buddy of mine whose a welder and i'm gunna get all the measure ments together for him tomorrow and give them to him monday. and i friend of mine who worked at a junk yard over the summer gave me the tow hooks off an old full size chevy and they fit thru the holes already in the valence. so this should be done by next weekend. dont quote me on that

dodge made all the stuff we need for tow hooks on our truck we just have to afro engineer it together lol. :nana:
so far we have '05 f-150 hooks we can use? not bad, lots of options...
anything else fit up there?
older ram and GM tow hooks fit through the holes in the valence but you have to build drop brakets for them which is what im doing
ok so my friend whos making my brakets didnt get them finished this weekend so maby next weekend he's doing them for free so im not complaning
OMG!!! i've figured it the perfect tow hooks for our trucks!!!

ok so the f150 hooks i have when bolted up stop just above and behind the hole in the valence so... im gunna have 1/4 steel welded to the bottom of the f150 hooks then drill holes in it and bolt the GM tow hooks i have to that! i just went out side and mocked it up it looks perfect
Take plenty of pictures.
:waiting:

i need something easier than my rear hitch for next winter when i drive around and pull people out of ditches lol

+1....
dont worry i will. im gunna talk to my buddy tomarrow at school... he's the one that talked me out of the brakets i designed becouse he said they would just tear at the bolts in the bumper and this is like 10 times easier

you have a body lift do you not. the f150 hooks would bolt to your frame and come out under the bumper and if you want to use GM style hooks weld in some 1/4" steel plate in the gap in the front frame and bolt them to it
