I was also looking at getting a tonneau cover for my 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT. My is a Club Cab though, and has the 6' 7" bed. I won't be stacking anything on top of the cover, just using it to hide stuff while on trips.
I have a Truxedo Truxport roll up cover. It rolls up to open up for full use of the bed, and velcro attachments are much better than snap covers. Not a drop of water gets through it, and 30" of snow piled on it without issue.
I have been using an Extang "Full Tilt" for 10+ years. Lifts and hinges up like a fiberglass tonneau or can be rolled up, or it can be removed in seconds by one person. I think its a perfect compromise between hard and soft. Never leaked and looks good too. Just this year i replaced the pleather cover at a cost for $100 from Extang direct because it started to wear a bit... Access to the front of the bed is achieved by just lifting it up. Worth a look.

Advise me, please. I've never had a truck with a bed cover before (mainly because I've never had a truck before) and I plan on ordering a 2023 XL Hybrid as soon as the order bank opens up. I plan on using the bed mostly as a trunk. I want to be able to open the tailgate by itself, and lock it up, and I want the stuff I put inside to stay dry, and I want the cover to last the life of the truck, and I want to be able to get it out of the way when I have tall or oversized stuff to put in the bed. With no experience, I don't know if I want hard or soft, folding, rollback, or one-piece. I don't know if I want to order the cover from Ford when I order the Maverick, or if I should go with a third party. I don't want to do the install myself. I'm pretty sure that I will also get the bed extender. I will be parking it outside and Michigan lake-effect snow will be landing on it. What do you recommend?
Thanks for the feedback guys! I had a RetraxOne retractable tonneau cover installed.
