I believe a 12.5" width tire is too much for a 8" wheel. What does the tire manufacture suggest for min. rim width?

Seems a bit wide to me. I wouldn't try it.
I'd agree.

Although back in my mis-spent yoot, I did a lot of out-of-spec stuff regarding tires & wheels and never had a problem. Usually those were bias ply tires. Maybe modern radials aren't as forgiving.

I have stock 7" wheels on my 96 Dakota. I put 265/70-15s on there and tehy would be better with 8" wide wheels. With the 7' wheels the beads pull in more than I'd like and the tires ride more on the center of tread, have to run lower pressure than I'd like to get a flat contact pattern for the tread.
