this is in regards to a thread on this forum called

"street racing - warning: graphic images inside" back in august

I wasn't on this site when this thread started and I have a different strong opinion about this topic that I would like to share.

showing those type of images and saying "this is what happens when you street race" is obsurd...this is the same tactic the goverment uses to try to brainwash there views into society...granted if those people were not racing that wouldn't of happen to them but let's look at the big picture here.

more people die from car crashes obeying traffic laws then street racing..I'm not sure what the exact ratio is but thats a give in...tire blow outs, falling asleep at the wheel, siesures, heart attacks, getting hit by a drunk driver, getting hit by a 16 year old newly licensed kid, etc. the list could go on forever.

if you are telling me you shouldn't street race because this is what will happen to you and then show a sickening image then I could post a similar image of someone all beat to sh*t and dead who was driving down the freeway at 75 mph and hit an elk and say we shouldn't be driving cars period or this is what will happen to you...but no one wants to look at it this way because they NEED to drive to work, grocery store, or even just go on a leisurly drive.. all of which are self gratifying because our ancestors lived there lives just fine with horse and buggy. contrary to popular belief we do not NEED cars/trucks. they are a luxory and a risk we are willing to take to get what we want, just like street racing is not necessary. It's a luxory and a risk street racers are willing to take to get what they want(respect).

so when a 35 year old mom dies in an car wreck where she was obeying traffic laws we morn, empathise, and feel bad for her. yet when a 21 year old single male is killed street racing we spit on him and call him stupid for street racing. I say, if you think it's ok to treat the dead 21 year old like that for being selfish and street racing then we should spit on the 35 year old mother and call her selfish for obeying the speed limit and hitting an elk because she could of just walked or rode a horse to where she was going. in my mind these two examples are the same thing and we should empathise with both of them.

I could go on and on about this and government conspiracies and so forth that our making us think this way but I don't want to bore anyone

end of rant :cussing:

please don't flame me too hard :biggthump

yea i didnt really agree with that thread either man, ppl street race...thats just how it is. posting one thread about it aint gonna change anything. and i can almost gaurantee that just about everybody on here as sped on a public road at one time or another which is just as dangerous as street racing, because when ppl speed its usual in regular traffic and street racing is generally done where there is nobody else around other then the ppl racing. and i can also almost gaurantee that every time sombody gets a new mod (performance wise) the first thing they do once its installed is pull out of their driveway or parking lot of who put it on, and put the pedal to the floor to see how it helped. which again...is just as dangerous :biggthump

I agree with you to a point. Even if someone isn't "at fault" it still requires two people to get in a car crash. I live right on the outskirts of Philadelphia and trust me, there are some crazy drivers out there. I drive extremely defensively, don't trust anyone, and even drive for some people by warning them if they are about to do something stupid whether it would affect me or not.

Traffic laws are supposed to lower the accident rate but nothing can eliminate them. Most people don't even follow the rules of the road, they have their own unique way of driving, legal or not. There is no reason to be driving down a road where hitting an elk would kill you. The driver should be aware of their surroundings and realize a wooded area has a potential to hold animals (or small children for that matter.) I'm personally scanning the area in front of me as far as I can see and as wide as I can look without moving my head. If I notice an animal like a deer then I will slow down to under 15 mph. A deer doesn't have binocular vision and therefor can't judge speed so there could be a chance that it could run out in front of you regardless where you are or how fast you are going.

I bet 99.9% of all accidents are preventable. I don't care if a kid who is speeding crashes and kills himself. I care if he takes someone out with him. Racing puts unknowing people in danger.

i think 1, it doesnt need to be talked about nemore, and 2, thats a crappy way of looking at it, race at UR own risk, if i am obeying the law and u hit me cause ur being a dumbass on the road then how is that fair? but if u hit me due to a blow out its diffrent, i can understand that. there is nothing safe about street racing, its uncontrolled and netiing can happen. why should u spit on a mom for going to the grocery store? thats a dumbass immature way of looking at it.

i think you could ask 100 people and get no 2 identical ways of looking at this personally i beleive in choice if you wanna race do it if you dont then dont. yes it can be dangerous for every1 invovled and of unexpecting ppl around. but you tell me what isnt dangerous today whos to say i walk down my stairs tomorrow miss a stair and fall and die (knock on wood) whose to say that the mom that got hit by the wouldnt have fallen alseep on her way back home? every part of everything has a certain aspect on danger to. you only live once better make it worth it thats my opinion

in general, people over here (U.S.) drive like shit. If you would have to pay more than 15 bucks to get ur license, and do more than prove that u can turn a turn signal on and stop when required, accidents would be greatly reduced. In Germany, u have to pay 2000 dollars and spend more than 100hrs driving to get ur license. That thread is BS too, ive seen the exact same pictures for "DUI" and "Just speeding" stuff too. Germany is smaller than texas and has a traffic density twice that of the City of New York, yet the accidents are a lot fewer than over here. Even on the AutoBahn where the speed limit is non existant (although there is a recomended speed of 180km/h, because any accident over 110mph, ur chances of survival are about zero) I just think there are plenty of other illegal activities that go on every day that damage more lives than "street racing". Street racing has been going on for a very, very long time, but just like plan crashes, people are just being more whiney and bitchy about it so its seems like its more common now.

isn't everyone who is on the road at some risk of hurting someone else? can you garuntee me 100 percent that if you obey all traffic laws you aren't going to hurt anyone tomorrow? so the race at UR own risk comment is bogus..if you're in a car you are at risk of hurting someone other then yourself. it's all relative and subjective.

about spitting on the mom, you missed my point...I was showing a relation between the mom and the streetracer and how both should be delt the same respect. i don't feel anyone should ever be disrespected at anytime especially if they were killed in a car wreck street racing or not..no one is perfect and no one has the right to judge IMO

street racing has always been around and always will be.
if it wasnt for street racing i doubt the muscle car era would of gone very far, and i doubt if manufactures would be making performance cars

and if you love cars and do performance mods to them your probably lying if you say youve never street raced.

So true. We wouldnt even have R/Ts if people never street raced. Why make a performance truck if a performance car isnt even justified? Im not condoning street racing, but I am guilty of it myself.

Bottom line is... Accidents will happen just because they are well.. Accidents. They're not intended.. but just happen... Going the speed limit and driving like you're supposed to is far more safe than racing in traffic or some back road where a little kid is riding his bike and gets killed by a car racing another. So don't bring up the "people die every day going the speed limit" thing because that is completely different. However, street racing on the other hand can raise the risk or causing accident to the drivers and everybody else around. No matter what you all say, street racing is wrong. As I was told in school "Your fun ends where everyone elses begins." Why is it so hard to just obey the laws that keep us safe and civilized?

i agree with you and try not to race or goof around myself, but I don't feel it's fair to look down upon someone because they are taking the risk and causing risk to someone else because you are doing the same thing everday when you turn your ignition...just not at the same level as a street racer. so just because a street racer is taking more risk then what our government says to take makes him a bad person? our nation was founded on rebellions who took unneccesary risks against laws put on them by a higher power and look where we are today...just because someone disagrees with a law or choose not to obey a law does not make them a bad person. they may face certain consequences (especially if they are caught)..but I refuse to believe just because a person is choosing to disobey a law it makes it ok to talk sh*t about them.

"what is right and what is wrong is in the eye of the beholder"

at the same time without laws there would be chaos and confusion, and I understand this, it's a catch 22 ...but I don't feel I can judge someone who is street racing and tell them what they are doing is wrong and they are bad...i feel they deserve the same respect I would like to be treated with.

wheni street race i put myself and the other person in danger, and if netime i find or suspect that someone else is i stop. and as far as everyone is at danger driving, ur absolutly right, you think u got a better chance dieing going 100 or 45. this thread is fucking stupid, u can die at anytime, anywhere anyhow, but i do know that racing IS INCREASING UR CHANCES, and if u say it isnt, ur full of fucking shit/

I'm not going to preach to anyone either way. It took me brushing a concrete retaining wall at almost 150mph to stop street racing.

There was a post a few days ago about someone street racing with his wife and kids in the car. That's just plain stupid. If your going to race, and granted others are at risk anyway, don't put someone like a child who does not have a choice to be their in harms way.

I don't know about where you guys are from, but here in Georgia their are so many tracks that have grudge nights. Then you can see who the best racer really is, not the one who doesn't know enough to back off if things get stickey.

Besides, now when I win a race the glory lives on in the pages of National Dragster, and a lot more people find out about it rather then it just being my version of it on some web site.

I bet if you went on a Mustang web site you would find a post "the other dirvers version" about how he smoked that Dakota the other day

Most people are like this... I wont lie to you.. I was young and dumb at one time and have street raced before. I'll be the first to tell you, it was stupid of me and if I could take it back I would... So I just don't do it anymore.

I think it's prefectly fair to look down on someone who is street racing... they are only making the already dangerous roads even more unsafe. Like I said before though, accidents are accidents and they aren't ment to happen. If everybody was a perfect driver and followed all the road signs then there would never be problems... But people will never be perfect drivers so accidents will happen. But for comparing following what the road signs say to street racing and both having potential to take lives... which do you think would be more likely to kill.. the person driving like he/she should or the person that is driving as fast as possible with really no care for anything or anyone around them?
steve_r/t said:

Not a bad person.. but it does make them an inconsiderate moron. At one time.. I and probably most people probably have fell under that catagory (as much as I hate to say that)

But making it ok to street race isn't going to make the roads safer at all and I assure you that more people/property would be killed/damaged if it was infact ok to street race.

This law is set in the best interest of everyone. I understand that you really can die at any time from just about any thing. I'm not even bashing you like I was that other guy from the first thread you're going off of. But doing anything that could increase the chance of taking anothers life is just wrong.

You know, I went to school with a kid that flipped his car about 5 times and hit a pole doing about 120. At the time right before he lost controll I'm sure he didn't think he was doing anything wrong. But right as he started to flip over lets say he could put his life on pause and let him think about whats happening. Do you think he would think it's right that he is going to lose his life within a matter of seconds? Do you think he would think it's right that he will never get to see or say good bye to his loving family and friends? Do you think he would have drove home the way he should have been and got to live another day? See where I'm going with this? It is really a sad way to go.. especially at the age the guy was.

Anybody who goes about having a good time by putting others life in danger (or more danger than it should be) doesn't quite desirve respect in my opinion.

All I'm saying is that it is not hard to follow the laws.. I know most of us have street raced and I'm not proud of that.. But it is much better to just drive on the streets like you should and if you really need to race that bad then take it to the track!!
