I have a 2002 durango with the radio controls on the steering wheel. What I need to know is what radio function do each of the buttons control, IE. volume up, volume down, etc. I am trying going to install a PAC-JACK and it has been so long since I used a factory radio that I can't remember what each button controls. Can anyone help?

If you're using a SWI, you can assign the buttons to whatever you want. But you have to program them in the exact order that the SWI instructions tell you. You also have to make sure the functions you want are supported by your head unit. I have mine (SWI-PS, but I think the function list is the same on all) set to (left side) Vol+/Mute/Vol-, (right side) Track & Seek+/Source/Track & Seek-..

You can only do this with the PAC SWI unit.. There is no way to interface the CCD/PCI bus line to an aftermarket head..

In the main steering column harness, you find the small black/lt green wire, cut it, and connect the end going to the buttons to the white wire on the SWI. The buttons are what's called a multiplexed resistor network - that is, all six switches are connected to that one wire, and each switch connects a different resistor to ground. Similar to what the CTM does, when you push a button the SWI reads the resistance on the wire and issues the corresponding command to the head unit.

I am waiting on my swi-ps to get here. $33.00 and free shipping seemed to be a good deal for it. so just that wire power and ground is the only wires i need to hook it up. Should I run a seperate power and ground or can I just run off the radios power and ground

You can run it off the radio connector. Yes it'll be just those three (maybe four, I can't remember if it needs constant/switched power or just one) wires. Just make sure you follow the directions to the T, because they are a little confusing. I don't think you have to cut jumper loops, but there is initial programming that has to be done - and as I said you have to program the buttons you want in the order THEY say.

As I said, the power and ground you can pick up at the radio harness, the steering wheel button wire (black/lt green) will be at the steering column. You do not have to take the dash out to get at it, just the column cover and knee bolster. Then there's just the cord that'll plug into the Remote jack on your Sony/Pioneer head unit (you DID check to make sure it has that, right?)

I was planning on buying a new stereo until i found out mine was capable. I always thought it was supposed to be a rear auxiliary but i found out on pioneers website that it is the wired remote... something that i think should be printed on the box. I also could have read the manual

Ok cool. What model Pioneer? Some are capable of using a rear AUX adapter for the IP/BUS port that's pretty cheap (and can even be homemade)..
