I'm following this one too. My '03 has 152k on the engine. Just put a new heavy-duty transmission in it. I indicated to Cert. Trans. that at some point, I wanted to supercharge the truck or drop in a bigger engine, so they built one that they would honor the warranty on even if bolted to 500hp. If I read previos threads correctly, the '03 5.7 will bolt right to the Dakota's auto trans. Yes?

I hope you don't mind if I piggyback on your thread for a minute..

I've hummed over the possibilities for my truck, boosting, all bolt-ons, and a Hemi swap, well lets just say I've made the choice and I'm going to start the planning and info gathering stage aswell. I just have some questions for now, and of course it's the usual ones..

(not worried about the motor mounts yet.)

1st question is the wiring question: I have an 05' 4.7l 2 wheel drive. If I get an 05 hemi, is my wiring portion of this swap going to be as easy as it sounds from all the forums/threads I've read? I mean, basically just plug and play using my 4.7 computer right? Splice in different connector styles here and there, change my O2 sensors, and that's it? The difference is also in the ignition coils too right, as there are 2 per cylinder on the hemi, or something like that? So I'd just need to splice those onto the same circuit?

2nd question is the oilpan question: I'm a 2wd, do I even need to worry about the oil pan at all? I mean, I've seen some heavy modifications done to these pans on the 4x4 models, but not much info on the 2wds..

Thanks in advance guys.

I'f you have not found your engine yet I have a 2004 ram hemi truck with 120xxx brand new trans and complete harness with pedal connectors 100% of the things you will need for you swap. I sold my dakota and I have the need to go faster then what a hemi will get me. Im planning a boost project and Im having trouble finding good flowing heads and cam for these engine.

If your interested pm me and We can talk a price. and yes it runs I'll take video and anything else you may need

Indeed, a full arrington setup could get you into the low 12s!
I could have gotten my brothers 03 Dakota into the low 12s with just the setup that was in my Ram. At a race weight of 5,330 lbs, I went 8.527 @ 79.80 in the 1/8 and 13.41 @ 99.20 in the 1/4 on a 1.91s 60' time. My hemi had the stock intake manifold and heads on it, little tiny Sidewinder torque cam, pacesetter long tubes, and SCT tuning on a 4.7 PCM with a cable operated throttle body.

Cable TB... How did you hook up the IAC?

Its a Mopar Performance TB and it has a NGC 4.7 style IAC built into it.
Ok, but what wiring harness are you using? The stock Ram harness' wouldn't have a plug for the IAC, being DBW... Or am I way off here?

I have what I would like to call the quickest 4.7 QC Ram around. My Ram had a 4.7 when it started life and has a 5.7 in its place using the 4.7 PCM, Harness, and SCT custom tuning. At my power level, I would not recomeend it without some form of TCM tuning. Its a transmission murderer in a heavy truck.

This was in full street trim weighing in at 5,600+ lbs, on P305/50/R20s and factory rims that weight 85 lbs each, and had the stock torque converter at the time. Running on a 105*F day in August in Texas.

This is what that sounds like on the track in cool weather, on the 20s, with an APS converter restalled to ~3,000 rpm. Full weight save for the back seats.
