I have a 2002 Dakota with 6 cyl and it sometimes will not go into park. sometime it does and acts normal. transmission shifts normal otherwise. is there an adjustment I need to check or is it probably internal
Start with your shift cable bushings. That's usually what goes bad first. There is a cable adjustment as well and the cable can stretch but not nearly as bad as they used to so normally you don't need to worry about the adjustment. Cables usually break before an adjustment is needed these days. It is worth looking at before tearing into the trans though.
Thanks I will check the bushings and condition of cable.
