repost: Cold Air Intake?

Steve, I spoke with Joe on Friday. He answered a lot of questions I had. Real cool guy. I placed an order for a Power Shot. I am looking forward to getting it, and installing it. Thanks for the help.

Good choice on the 360 air intakez I put mine on this weekend and i love it. it looks real nice and it sure beats my old bent muffler intake.

JST2SIC, what kind of power increase.............

have you noticed with your intake? I should receive mine any day now. I can't wait to get it installed along with the Magnaflow cat-back I have ordered.

STAMPEDE this is no super charger but going from the stock set-up it is definatly a noticeable difference. As for gas, I havent noticed at all, but then again I don't care to much.

Stampede, I noticed a modest increase in power through the old butt dyno. My gas mileage went up roughly 1mpg around town. Couldn't tell you on the interstate cuz I never drive on it. Although on a recent 600 mile round trip drivin 65 mph with only 2 stops I averaged 23.8 mpg which surprised the hell outta me. I usually average 17 around town.

Thanks for the information, guys. Honestly, I'm not as concerned about gas mileage as much as I am horsepower. I am looking for more GO. If I get an incremental gain in mpg, that is gravy.

You'll definetly notice a horsepower increase. Plus coupled with the exhaust it should be even better. Sound awesome too. With the cold air intake with the open filter it sounds like you got something under the hood when you get on it.

The sound out of the 360 Air Intake is one of the best parts. It makes it sound like its going to suck the grill into the motor. The throttle response seems better and the mileage went up at least 1 mpg, when you can keep you foot out of it...

Dual Air Intake

I have installed a Pro Zen "dual air intake" on my 2003 Durango 4.7L. I have lost about 1 mpg -- with my foot out of it. The sound is amazing. See

Does this intake actually work good? I saw it once and was wondering about it, how do you like it?

How do I like it "overall"? I like it. Good quality - and when you mash the pedal the engine sounds like it is going to suck in the car next to you.

HOWEVER - it was pricey ($220). After getting it and installing it I was playing on eBay one night and found "single" cold air intakes for $60 to $80. I was "bummed" that I had spent that much money after seeing those ads! Additionally, you could make something from PVC pipe and rubber pipe joint connectors for well under $100. You could make your own "dual" air intake or make a "single" air intake.

It is a very nice looking product. Everyone who sees it loves the look. The "pick up" on the engine went up. I am not sure how many HP I gained, but there was a gain.

One thing -- It sits on top of the engine. You will need to adjust it "perfectly" to keep the clamps and/or filers from hitting and rubbing against the underside of the hood. If that happens, it will rub the paint off the underside of the hood where contact is made.

Like I said, this is my only mod (to date - Magnaflow came in the mail and I need to install) and I lost about 1MPG - but I can live with that loss. Just wondering "why" it happened since I should have gained about 1MPG (theoretically).

i went with the k&n fipk. i know i spent too much $$ for it 430.00 at auto zone. what a rip off ! but i gained 3 mpg on the hwy. and about 7 hp. but i really love the way it sounds under full throttle.

If I had it to do over -- I would probably go with the Intense Cold Air Stage II with a 7-inch or 9-inch Big Mouth filter http://intenseperformance.com/products/Stage/stage.html

Much more inexpensive and the "end" of the conical filter is not "capped off" (as is the end of a K&N filter, and the filters I have -- which are Tool Cool blues).

Has anybody with a 4.7 done a Kool Shot. I like the idea of improvement without change in sound.

if so did you notice anything.

I had a FIPK on an otherwise stock 3.9 and the only difference I noticed was sound.

I'm looking at the picture of that intake and thinking to myself: "Where is the >cold< air coming from?" and I can't think of an answer. The FIPK (and other single sided intakes) moves the filter directly into the path of cold air entering from the front of the truck (where they instruct you to remove the rubber flap - allowing the air to enter) with a heatshield in place in an attempt to insulate it from the engine/exhaust heat.

Both filters on that dual intake setup appear to be directly over the exhaust manifolds with no attempt at sheilding the heat away.

I don't want to be the one to piss in your Cheerios, and keep in mind that I have absolutely NO emperical evidence of this, but I doubt that you've gained any HP by using this, and believe that this is the reason for your loss of MPG. Have you tried to put the stock intake back on to see if the MPG improves?

intakes are expensive now days. I did research for months before I finally ordered mine. I went with the intense performance stage II w/9" big mouth filter. Haven't looked back. Didn't want to spend big money on K&N joint, but didn't want to go with the $10 setup either. $140 was just right
