Radiator mounts nut clip

Hey all,
So I'm replacing the radiator on my 2001 Durango, finally managed to get this old bastard out, I've moved the fan from the old to the new, but I'm having an issue with the mounting point of the radiator back to the car.
I'm talking about these little tabs that I need to slide on the radiator around the mounting holes in order to keep the nut in place and prevent it from turning.
I have like 6 of these or so to slide on, and only managed to get one on so far with ridiculous effort.
I must be missing something, but can't figure out what.
Any help would be much appreciated as I was planning to have this finished by the end of tomorrow to take the truck for a Thanksgiving trip with the family.
Let me know if you have any tips or even general info on how to mount these.

Quick picture with the holes ''highlighted'', only did one side on the old and new so you can zoom in on the other side.

They can be a pain in the ass sometimes. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to help. On mine it's just the nut itself that slides into the slot and just a small plastic tab that holds nut in. Really as long as the nut stays in the slot you can get bolt started and they won't move. If the nuts are spinning while trying to tighten bolts then you have have bd threads on either nut or bolt. Or the alignment isn't right,
