This morning one of my co-workers came into my office and told me how some asshat stole his truck's tailgate in the middle of the night. This reminded me of a couple of security products that have been mentioned on this site in the past, so I figured I'd start up a thread regarding security measures for our trucks.

Two products I highly recommend - have used them both on my trucks in the past - both from the same company.

1) Gate Keeper - this is a metal bracket that is bolted onto your tailgate that helps cover up the notched side of the tailgate that allows you to remove it from your vehicle. Installation takes less than 5 minutes. This is handy because it makes it impossible to simply walk up and remove your tailgate - requires an allen wrench to remove the bolt/bracket, which most thieves probably aren't going to bother having on hand when they're trying to sneak up and steal your tailgate in the middle of the night. If you do need to remove your tailgate for towing/moving/whatever, you can remove/re-install the bracket at will.

2) Jimmi Jammers - this is a metal plate that is installed inside of your vehicles doors, between the plastic door handle and the lock mechanism/rods. Some thieves will attempt to access your vehicle by punching through the plastic handle or the thin metal around your handle with a large screwdriver/punch, then use a pair of pliers to lift the latch rod and open the door. These plates block access to the rod/lock mechanism. Obviously this won't stop the thief from trying another way to get into your vehicle (eg: smashing a window), but IMHO anything that helps deter them or delay them from getting into the vehicle can help - might make them give up and move on to someone else's vehicle.

Both products are available from http://www.jimmijammer.com

i saw on tv a catalytic converter lock. its basically 10ft of metal wire you use to lock the cat to your frame. people will steal your cat for scrap metal.

First thing i would say is that if at all possible, don't park on the street.

In a lot of subdivisions, like the one I live in, I see people all the time parking on the curb in front of their house.

A while back a bunch of kids was going around in these neighborhoods breaking into cars that were parked on the curb like that. I always park as close to the garage door as i can, and make sure the motion sensor lights are on.

When in public places, I park as close to the door of whatever establishment I may be going to. If that isn't possible, I park under one of the lights. If your vehicle is in a dark corner of a parking lot, to me it is more inviting for a thief than one in the open well lit areas.

Aside from that, I just keep a eye on my truck wherever I may be.

And I have been at peoples apartments, coming out to leave, and saw people standing very close to my vehicles as if they were about to try and break in, I'm not gonna lie or say this to make myself out to be a bad ass, but yea, I pulled my gun on them, and they duck and run too!

And it also helps that my backyard is very close to the garage and driveway, and in that backyard, I have a German Shepherd who will bite your face off at my command, so at night, or anytime of day, you won't get in my yard or driveway without her letting us know lol

I believe this is easily done, if you have an automatic truck, there is a relay under the steering wheel, put there for manual transmission trucks to keep them from starting if the truck is in gear. Simply put a switch between that relay, and whola, kill switch on the cheap.

I think I may look into one of these.
My friend got his tail gate stolen at work one night.
Pretty crazy how people will steal anything!
Including my Spare in my bed.

I've noticed in a couple of threads that when a thief can't get something easily he tears up the dash, breaks windows, slices convertible tops, and gets mad and trashes the interior. Sometimes you wonder if it is worth trying tp prevent it and just let them have it. Your door locks keep the honest people out. Alarms are mostly ignored as you seem to hear them all the time going off. Any thief determined to get something will get it. The only thing that will keep a thief at bay is a deterrent, like this:

i have seen a 120Db train horn hooked to a security system. when it was tripped, the pump would come on and within 5 seconds open the horns and they would gradually ramp up as pressure built. it was a custom rig tho. i can only imagine the thief's reaction when the truck starts to whir at him then whistle.

and yes. he said it has gone off before and has had the cops speak to him for noise violations. he said he asked the cop how many times he actually responds to car alarms going off.

Seeing as how I am going to do a train or semi horn in my truck, that is a nice idea. Except when you accidentally set it off XD

In my neighborhood, me and my fiancee don't even lock our doors on our cars/trucks.

It's whatever. And at work you can't get to where I park unless you go through 3 gates to get there.

at home though it might be the whole " We don't call 911" sign with a pistol on it that scares a few away....

Dude, even the neighbors got nicer when they realized I was a MAJOR gun owner.

I don't know if it's nicer because of fear or respect though:huh::jester:

Real Simple Kill switch, is this what you are looking for?
pictures are all removed.

but yes, all you need to do is alter a normal security system to hold the horn instead of pulsing it.
then you put a release valve and an electronic valve between the tank and horns. put the pump to come on with the horn, and open the valve. once pressure hits the release point, it blows. when you hit the kill, the valve closes and the pump stops. it also helps if the tank stays primed for long periods that way it does not have as long of a ramp to hit the tone
