UPDATE:

Note the sun wasn't directly shining into the lights, but only slightly to the left of the truck.

With just the running lights on:

With the brakes applied:

Sorry for the sucky night shots...I still don't know how to use my wifes camera. These are just the running lights on, I had no one to push the brakes for me. Just know that they'll be brighter than this when applied.

Alright, so I wanted to get my stock taillights tinted and thought about the'ol NiteShade in the can job, but, I didn't want to fuck up my stockers with that crap. To make a long story short, I hooked up with the guy that did Brad's X-Runner, Mike. I contacted him and chatted through emails and a couple of phone calls. He gave me a price I couldn't refuse. After recieving pictures of the final product...I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. I told him once I get them back and installed, snap some good pictures of them and post them up, I'd see who else would be interested in getting them done.

As far as price goes, Mike told me that it would be better to get a nice group to want to do this at once.

These prices are for one set of lights (both taillights)

1 member = $45 for tinting the whole taillight - $80 to tape off reverse light - PLUS shipping both ways.
10+ members = $40 each (less depending on how many) tinting whole taillight - PLUS shipping both ways.

How dark or light you want it does not effect the price any. Straight forward price.

hello everyone, I'm Michael. I decided i should register on your all's forum and throw some links up to some pictures of my work. I owned 2 X-Runners over the past 3 years and both had tinted taillights. the first one i had done by a buddy who actually inspired me to start painting and the second one had a set of tails that i changed multiple times just because i could. I even tinted them red for awhile to make them blend with the paint.

now to the paint.. i use automotive grade paint and a gravity feed professional grade spray gun to tint the tails. my normal consistency of paint is about 80% clear coat and 20% Black paint. when mixed together, the paint becomes a dark haze, but when applied to a taillight, 3rd brakelight, turn signal, side marker light, etc, it creates a smoked look to it. if you enjoy them darker or black, the lights will look pure black until you touch the brakes, turn signal etc. this paint mixture is the same as having 80% tint on your windows.

here are a few links full of reviews :drive:

these are the tails from my x-runner: i tinted them red to blend with the paint

heres the thread with pics of Brads taillights. for more information, you can read through the thread and get a taste of them.

another thing, from experience, I do not tint headlights or foglights. the reason is because the minor rock-chips that create craters in the lights will cause the tint to look abnormal and weird and I don't enjoy that look. I'm very picky and won't do something that i don't think someone would enjoy

i tried blue once for a blue truck. the only issue with it is that it needs a lot of blue to make a taillight with a red or dark background to turn blue and blend with the paint. we ended up taking the blue off his tails and tinting them black. i am willing to do it again if you wish. to be sure the paint matches, send me 2 or so bottles of touch-up paint for your truck along with the taillights. i always send pictures of the finished product, therefore, if you decide you want them tinted black i can take the paint off and re-do them before you spend more money on shipping.

Michael

also, in the original post i want to clarify that the $45 will be for the set of taillights, not just one taillight.
welcome and awesome work man.how exactly did you like the red? im definitly going to send you my lights.pm me your address & how you want payment..
I loved the red. I was the only X-Runner with that done and the fact that I did it myself was even better :mullet:

i'll PM you my paypal right now. Confirmed address is correct.

****for anyone sending me taillights: please write me a note and put it inside your box. I would like you to specify how you want them tinted and your username on this forum so that when i send you pictures of them prior to sending them back, i send you the correct pictures. also, please write your e-mail address to assure i send the pictures of your lights to the correct e-mail.*******
