I'm draining/filling and replacing the Transmission Pan and I'm draining/filling the Transfer Case. I'm also going to get motor oil and one of those EA Oil Filters thats rated for 25,000 Miles/1 Year (Can I trust it?). Here is my purposed shopping cart, tell me if I need anything more/less quantity wise:

6 Quarts Synthetic Universal Transmission Fluid (Transmission)
2 Quarts Synthetic Universal Transmission Fluid (Transfer Case)
6 Quarts SAE 5W-30 XL Synthetic Motor Oil (Engine)
1 AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters EAO42
1 WIX Automotive & Light Truck Transmission Filters Product Code: 58843-EA

The total price is $150.70 with the preferred customer membership, do these quantities make sense?

i just love AMSOIL products, but i think you should get the 5w-30 high performance oil instead of the xl 5w-30.at $3 more a quart,it will almost double your drain interval.as far as the Ea filter, wait till you compare the filter you take off (with still some oil in it) to the Ea filter in #lbs, then let us know what you think :mullet:

I'll do that, but it doesn't say that I should do 7,500 mile oil changes like it does with the XL....

only way to fully switch the tranny over to full amsoil is to flush it with amsoil, then reflush again then refill with amsoil. all your doing is adding 6 qts of amsoil on top of another 6qts or atf+4...

also, change the cooler filter in the tranny while your there.

I know I should do a flush, but I only have the means of doing a drain and fill. Something is better than nothing....

Comes in the kit...

Are you guys talking about transmission oil pan filter? Isn't that the WIX filter I'm going to buy?

Excellent, I'll be making my order soon. Although my girlfriend made me give up online shopping for lent so does anyone have the number for our sponsor? Loop-holes are amazing! And on the AMSOIL Sponsor Sub-Forum, I see that he used to give the $10 Preferred Membership free, does he still do that?

What's the main advantage of going to Amsoil ATF since ATF+4 is already a synthetic? Just longer drain intervals?

14.8 qts total. 6.6 initial.

Technically- yes. The problem is there's no easy easy way to drain a little fluid from the transmission. I guess you could disconnect the cooler lines again and start it up and pump some out and then top back off.

I bought a couple of these with my last Summit order to install when I do my next fluid change. Will make draining the fluid much cleaner and also allow for easily draining a little out if I overfill.

I pulled the trigger and bought $200 worth of fluids/filters:
10 quarts of AMSOIL ATF
6 quarts SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil
1 Wix Trans Filter
1 Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter
1 Drain Plug (Summit Racing)

Next I'm looking into redoing the rear and front differentials.

Hey man how did it all go???
Do you like the amsoil products??
And did you replace the whole pan or just cleaned it up when you took it out??

And brad####, can you drill straight into the pan with the fluid in there before you take it off the initial time to install that plug??

#28 ·
I have changed the Tranny and the Crankcase, but I stripped the drain plug for the T-case so I have yet to do that, hopefully I will have that done by this week. I've been really happy with the quality of the products I have received. The filters were very high quality and I've been impressed with the fluids thus far. And just to show you how satisfied I've been, I'm planning to do the front and rear differentials with Amsoil soon, as well as buy some of their grease for some different hinges. If I could go back in time, I would recommend not buying 1 10 quart jug because it's a B---- to deal with and hard to measure. Although you're paying about $5 more to have separate 1 quart bottles, it's very worth it in my eyes. I'll probably do an Oil Analysis after about 10,000 miles of the Amsoil 5W-30 to see exactly where I stand.

Oh, and I did replace the whole pan because the old stamped steal one was worn out and rusted. I wouldn't recommend drilling a hole while it's still attached because you could accidentally slip and hit something important, so it's worth it to do it the old fashioned way, unscrew one side and let it spill out that side first and then take the whole thing off.

Really man cause im planning on doing all of what you said this summer, gonna switch to synthetic differentials and do my tranny and tcase.

Where did you get the new pan though?? Right now I feel like I can only find it at a dodge dealership.

And yeah I wasn't sure if it was a good idea but thought id ask!

#30 ·
Dodge has one for about $50, it's good quality and comes with a magnet. I think you won't be able to find it any easier anywhere else, might as well just get it from the dealer. Does anyone know the size of the hex bolts for the drain/fill plugs on the Transfer Case?

#32 ·
The magnet will catch metal shavings so that you can see when you replace the pan if there is any metal shavings, you need to investigate a problem in the transmission.

On a side note, how long is the shelf life on motor oil? I want to buy some 5W-30 this summer and put it in my truck next spring. Can it wait that long to be installed?

I'd be careful with that website. It looks like it's VERY biast for AMSOIL. I know it's the best product, but that could give you false information. Think about this question, "What purpose does the author have writing this information?"
